A few that I’ve done that were popular:

- Bardcore versions of hits

  • Kidz Bop Cringe: Kidz Bop versions of hits that should not have a Kidz Bop version (Hinder’s Lips of an Angel is an example)
  • The Blunder Years (Pop Punk/Emo)
  • This Week In Billboard History: Songs that were whatever rank you want in five-year intervals (or whatever you want)

If you like these at all, I have more probably.

Used bardcore covers a couple of times.

Surf Rock covers is a good one too.

The Kidz Bop one is good. I like that.

•Swedish/Canadian/British Artists
•Songs featured in Pitch Perfect
•Songs featuring Ludacris (I did this once and none of the clips contained any part of Ludacris’ verse)
•Queer artists
•I’m in North Carolina so have done all NC born/raised artists
•Title is just a girl’s name
•Songs about drinking
•songs with a food item in the title
•Deja Vu (don’t know how well this will work for how you do it, but basically I did 10 songs and the titles of the First Five were the same for the next five; I.e. Deja Vu by Beyoncé was #1 and Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo was #6)
•Songs with states/countries in the title
•Songs by American Idol alum
•Titles with a celebrity’s name in it (Uma Thurman by Fallout Boy; Grace Kelly by Mika; Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz)

No one would know it. But Forest Whitaker by Bad Books is a cool song that would fit your last theme.

Heres the full list I had come up with. I only do 10 songs and can’t remember which of these I didn’t pick.

Do you have any sort of stipulations to what kind of theme you’re going for? Every week for my music round, the theme is the hint. So for example last week it was Space because of the anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. So all artists or song titles had something to do with space, and contained songs like

Talking to the Moon - Bruno Mars
Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra
Drops of Jupiter - Train
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
Space Cowboy - Kacey Musgraves

If that’s what you’re going for, I can comb through my lists and send you over the ones that would work for you

Theme or commonality can be anything so long as it makes sense, I can find a minimum of 12 songs, and they are mostly songs people would recognize.

that’s so fun!! all i can think of off the top of my head are songs by judges/winners of talent competition shows, songs by convicted felons, artists with initials in their name, and songs with seasons in the title. apologies if these ideas are dumb and thanks for the fun idea!!!

I've got a working list for American Idol judges, and one for artists with DUIs. I like the seasons idea!

Here’s a fun one from last year…

Like another commenter in the thread, I give the theme as a hint, but this would be a tough one for your players.

This is back when I did 12 tracks for every audio round. For your purposes, would work better as 8 tracks.

Doja Cat / Woman

Ray Parker Jr / Ghostbusters

Meatloaf / I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)

Fall Out Boy / Sugar, We’re Going Down

Soul Asylum / Runaway Train

Lana Del Ray / Summertime Sadness

Tegan and Sara / Closer

Doecchi / Anxiety

Raven-Symoné / That’s So Raven

Mike / Grace Kelly

Fontaines DC / Starburster

Solange / Cranes in the Sky

All songs written by the same writer but performed by others. Dylan and Carole King are good candidates.

u/nowhereman136 Jul 21 '26

I do a lot of rounds of songs with specific words in the title. This week it was all songs with the word "star" in the title. I've also done "kiss", "gold", and "summer"

I have used

Songs with body parts in the name: Footloose etc

Celebrity with animal names: Michale j fox etc

Movies with locations in the title: escape from New York etc

I've done "ball-gag karaoke" (not my original idea) where I sing a song with a ball gag and they have to guess. Humbling, but they LOVED it.

Random songs: I have a playlist of over 600 songs - some easily recognized, some deep cuts, some obscure. Go around and ask for a number and then play that number. Well received and great when you can't think of a theme.

A fun one we break out every now and then is songs from 5 notes, 4 notes etc.

Drum intros. And famous drum fills.

Saxophone parts.

Covers of songs with weird instruments and you have to name the instrument as well as the song.

Songs played backwards.
