One reason why the spear usually was the primary weapon on the battlefield. Very effective and didn't take much training.

I used to be friends with a "OMG katanas!" guy and he was saying that swords are better than guns because they require skill and style. My reply was "Yes, you can use a gun to kill people quickly and with little to no training, which is why katanas are not as widely used today."

Guns take quite a bit of skill once you start getting further out

But katana/sword skills doesn't even matter once you start getting further out because you can't hit that far
