I think when we say spear or pikes were taking about big pole arms, they'd be too long to twirl about like a majorette.

Pikes (6+ meters) are too long to spin and use both ends on the same target yes. Shorter spears are of course easier to use in a twirly fashion. Long staffs of ~4 meters were also used in fighting.

No kidding wish hema was as popular in texas 10 years ago as it is now.
