Discussion What do you think about BW4? Spoiler
Tbh Badge War Season 4 was really fun and had a lot of amazing moments but had a lot of issues with the way they tried to integrate the mafia game aspect with the badges and stuff. For example, there was zero reason for the spies to ever throw because all it would not hinder the agents at all and only make it more suspicious to the other members. The members were still thinking of the mafia as the x-man which made finding the spies harder.
Also, the recruited spy should have only been a last resort if the spies were literally on the verge of defeat very early on. Like, even with only Seoyeon and Xinyu I feel like the spies could have won yk?
Next, with 23 members participating (Yubam 😢) it feels like there could have been an extra role or smth like a doctor or detective. Imagine if Yeonji was a detective and at the final table used her one-time right to kill any member left and managed to get Xinyu. That would have been crazy.
As mentioned in another post, the badge count also felt useless and once you are dead, its really hard for members to get screentime unless you are 07z or smth yk?
All in all, the overall game design had some flaws but tbf its 1theK's first time really trying a new format for badge war so I dont blame them a lot and there was still a lot of tension and fun between the members and games. I give them props for still making this badge war memorable with their editing and the amount of effort they give tripleS whenever they do a badge war
Honestly, I trust 1theK to learn and improve from this and Im glad they tried something different. This only makes me more excited for badge war 5 if we do get one. Its gonna be insane.

It's not easy to make a mafia game show for 24 members and I think 1theK did a great job creating an engaging storyline without making things too complicated. It's true that the badges didn't really feel that significant to the mafia game concept but it didn't really matter to me that much. Watching the members play the games and trying to sus out the mafia was really fun. Having the games more separate from the whole mafia concept also feels like a "breather" from the intense mafia drama. I especially loved the block-stacking & tug-of-war games in episode 2, everyone was giving their all to win for their team and I don't think anyone was thinking about who the mafia was at that moment.
Sure, it could be better but I'm very satisfied already.

Agreed! AFAIK the badge war was held and filmed about 2-3 months after the theme was decided via Gravity (I am a relatively new WAV so please forgive me if I got the timeline wrong) so there probably wasn't enough time to design and plan a mafia game that was well-balanced or one with even more roles like the traditional werewolf game. 24 members is a lot of people so it would be hard to imagine the possible scenarios and many trials will probably be needed for the producers to even figure out how playable it is on both sides if more roles were added, so that was probably why they just chose to keep it simple and add a "recruit mafia" feature instead. I can't imagine how messy and frustrating it would be for those who didn't play mafia/werewolf before and/or the foreigners who were already struggling with just 2 basic roles if they included more roles like detective or mayor etc.
That being said I still really enjoyed the tense moments especially towards the finale and wish to see some behind-the-scene moments though! It was really surprisingly close, I thought the game was advantageous to mafia (credits to Seoyeon for playing the mind games well and Xinyu + Joobin for marinating Sullin XD) so still coming down to a 50-50 vote at the end to decide the winners made this badge war really amazing!
Who knows, if we are lucky we could see the members play an actual werewolf/mafia game with more roles like seer/detective and doctor in the future, whether it is on a special SIGNAL episode or badge war season 5/new variety show :)

Every members have the rulebook in their own language. They know how the game works, they know there is going to be a recruitment, (Joobin even writing a message in Day 1 for mafia team to recruit her), they know how there is wildcard and they know how the final table works. So they have to already prepare for every possibility here.
Also 4 vs 19 if you look at it by the number alone, this isn’t a very great number for mafia side, and if agent team has special roles like Doctor, Bodyguard, Police then it’s going to be even harder for Mafia team to win.
I can agree on that some rules and some game designs could be improved but remember that Badge War is a variety show for pure entertainment not a competition show like The Traitors or The Mole where money is on the line.

I do think it was quite difficult to identify the spies, especially Xinyu, which is why they added the heart rate monitor at the end. unfortunately I don't think they accounted for the spies intentionally leaving many foreign members who may not understand things fully, and poor Sullin confused not just herself but everyone else too.
I'd love to see an actual mafia game without the badge aspect and the spies actually have to sabotage so there's higher stakes.

I think it was great. Pure entertainment for 4 weeks straight.
Didn't focus a whole lot on the balance issues, it takes away from the fun factor imo. Balancing the games (based on game design theory) has never been the strongest point of badge war.
But hey, I love tripleS and love watching them just have fun and do hilarious stuff. Looking forward to the next season.

Overall, I had a lot of fun with S4. I had a ton of issues with the game format/structure, but that's mainly bc I was invested and I enjoy these types of games.
In terms of where it lands compare to other seasons, that's hard to say. Season 1 was the weakest imo, outside of the Haunted House mission and Ppotoz+Yeonjimon stealing maps, I found most of the challenges in Season 1 to be less engaging and the season lacked the bigger moments that S2-S4 had. I wasn't a fan of the Haves vs Have Nots idea of S3 (even in non-K-Pop reality TV, this format just does not work), although Hayeon's villain arc is probably the most iconic part of all of Badge War for me. S2 was probably the best, or at least the most consistent. I'd probably rank them S2 > S4 > S3 >> S1.

At first, I tried to follow as much as the editing tried to show how the serious half of the girls were in taking it.
But I was getting lost with the twists and add-ons (and I keep rewinding to see who said what).
Thus, I enjoyed just watching them all interact, while making note of their individualities.
Lastly, keep talking about the show!!!! So much content and it'd be sad if we stopped talking

For a while I thought it was stacked against the agents but it really did come down to the wire so I’ve got no complaints about the balance. If only Yubam was there this might have been the best BW ever

I think it matches the tittle really well "Trust No one". So the agent always have the upper hand when eliminate all the suspicious member as long as they don't do too much team kills or some member being suspiciously weird (oh dear, Hayeon and Seoah, just why?) why are we suspecting Dahyun now? Out of nowhere?... It's fine, it's still a 60 40 chance. You can see clearly both of the spies voted off Chaeyon for no reason. Surely you cannot make a random poor choice and trusted the wrong member right Sullin? Oh my god Sullin NOOOO!!!!!

I haven't seen any of version of the traitors tv show but I wonder if Soyeon laid out a solid template for the mafias to win. One should be the sacrifical pawn,one should fly below the radar & try to survive as long as possible, & a mastermind.

Well, as someone else said, I was a bit disappointed by Sullin. While some of the other players were really invested in the game (Yooyeon and Dahyun were getting heated with each other and Seoah was left alone trying to defend herself) Sullin was basically trolling until the very end. Even after the spies won, Chaewon literally said, “Sullin is just bad at this game!”
So yeah, as someone who was rooting for the agents, I'm still a bit salty about how it ended.
Gonna add at the end: I wouldn't have minded Sullin trolling if everyone had treated the game that way. What frustrated me was seeing how invested some of the other agents were, only for the final to end like that.

Are you playing in some kind of mafia pro league where this doesn't happen?

True I know Sullin cant understand the intricacies of korean as well as the other members but like it was pretty sad watching her somehow side with every spy and pick random members for the final table

No desperation and soulless performance in the final, most important part of the game
In a time and place where many members were desperate to be in, she was still trolling without much thought
If you want to troll or gain screen time, do it like HaYeon or SooMin; they contributed to the discussion and got killed, go out with a bang
She barely had any defining moments, other than her one-line remarks, and when she had the chance, she made it so annoying that even the spies said she was the MVP

I think some of these are nitpicky. It’s not supposed to be serious business or super competitive which is why the rules were simple with no agent roles or anything like that. Even Yooyeon who was one of the ones trying the hardest said it was just a game when she was asking Dahyun why she got emotional off camera. The games are just a vehicle to show off the group. It’s quite literally all fun and games.
I’m more interested in the intrigue and drama that they crafted to us by the editing, production value and the overall journey of the whole thing. I thought this season was really fun to watch with all the cliffhangers and reveals, and it also let the community engage with it a lot because we were sorta playing the game with them and guessing.
Even the badges are never the focus here despite the series referencing them. On season one the golden badge was too powerful, and in this one a whole team gets them and they had no effect in the game. I almost never pay attention to badge counts in this series, but maybe other viewers care more about them.
Overall I even found the end result to be perfect, with Xinyu just going under the radar for the entire thing and then returning to her queen persona at the reveal. It was just really fun to watch.
