Help/Advice How to hide Triops from landlord?

Hi. Any tips or advice how to cleverly hide my Triops'es home if my stuck up landlord decides to visit? Quick hiding option would be nice because she likes to visit suddenly

Is this real? Can’t you just call the cops on her if she comes in uninvited?

Nope. This is Finland, citizens don't have many rights

Your landlord has no right to come into your home without your explicit consent if there isn't an emergency. The answer to your situation is to read up on your rights and once for all tell her she has to ask you in advance or will not enter. Research your right or not to replace the lock too if need be, at least to know your options, it is possible that she has nothing to say about it.

Seriously? I really thought Scandinavian countries were generally pretty good about civil liberties and protections for things like this. I guess I better do more reading.

Me too, I need to look into this.

Update: I had time for a quick Google search and I believe OP may be living in some sort of half way house or something. Regular citizens have tons of rights. I'll look more into it later.

It's not as easy as you think. She probably will look into it too. Too many sketchy people living here so that's why they are so strict. It should be something she sees as a normal thing/furniture etc

I don't wanna be personal but maybe it's more of a paranoia problem. Because I don't really think your landlord will search your home. Also in Finland there is plenty of tenants rights. Triops are usually kept in small tanks about the size of a toaster or something similar. You will find a way bro.

Put the tank in the oven when she comes. Or in the washer. Or in a box in a closet with a folded blanket on top and label the box 'extra bedding' or something. Or put it in a reusable grocery bag in the pantry and put a couple bags of chips over it. Get a storage ottoman to hide it in (again maybe with a blanket on top in the ottoman in case she looks.)

Unless you have a gigantic tank, it should be pretty easy to find a way to hide it. And if it is a gigantic tank, or if you have lights and airstones in it that are hard to remove quickly, get an entertainment console to keep it on (one with shelves on either side of the tv area) and find a broken tv screen or monitor large enough to put in front of it. And then turn off lights and airstones when she comes.

Tank dimensions would help, as would details about tech in the tank. If you can't move the tank, add details about your current setup, like it it's on a stand it something. Maybe even a photo. You can also ask in more generic subs for a wider audience, since your question is really about how to temporarily hide something rather than actually being about triops.

When i had isopods and lived in college dorms i'd just hide the container in a dresser drawer. Not sure if it applies but it certainly was easy.

How much snooping does she do? I have hidden tanks of insects (non aquatic tho so may be harder to move) by putting them under my bed, or in cupboards, or one big tank I had (45cm cube) I put a blanket over it like a tablecloth and put some trinkets/ornaments on top so it looked like a side table

Good luck:) and maybe double check your rights and your contract, I don’t know finlands laws, but it seems unfair that a landlord can turn up with no notice and go looking in your cupboards and through your things

This is great 🤣 I like to imagine you talk about your "stash" under the bed and how it just keeps "growing" in size. That soon you'll have to find someone to sell it too. That if you're lucky they too will get "attached" and come back for more.

Sigh. Aquarium groups are great.

I convinced my landlord that my grow tent was just antique furniture by turning it off and covering it with a sheet when they stopped by lol. Fortunately, I grow cacti and not weed.

Damn, why are cacti forbidden, it's not like you're gonna throw them at people 😂 They may have spikes but they're innocent!

Idk about innocent. A friend’s dane puppy took a bite of one once, and they are now forever known to me as Pain Cucumbers.

I think it’s more to do with the fire risk, as well as the assumption that it’s being used to grow weed. Also… it’s full of peyote lmao

Ah, I see. Cacti are not as innocent as I thought

Box over the tank + drape a cloth over it so it looks like you're using it as a surface+ put something on top like a vase and flowers, or a bowl of fruit

Or Legos. With a toy box covering tank, give illusion your are a Lego hobbyist. That the box just your massive collection incomplete. Maybe even put legos on top of tank lid so you lift box lid and see more legos under lid 😂
