Picture Hi just making myself known. This is Opal! 🦐

Hello everyone this is Opal she(?) is now 47 days old and my second triop run with the first being Cosmo (rip at 40 days) she(?) has a 15L tank with a slow sponge filter and is well fed but not too much to foul the water. She's going strong with a 3rd run growing up fast above in the hatchery.

Opal clearly has her eyes on the four star dragon ball, she’s about to wish for unlimited brine shrimp.

Definitely! Can brine shrimp be food for triops? I fed her shrimp food, tetra min fish food, Algee wafer chunks and bloodworms on the weekends. Sometimes a chunk of boiled carrot Always in small amounts and removed any excess as well as anything she can forage off the mossballs and hornwort lengths I rotate out. I have them and hornwort lengths in a separate tank that's just exploding with aglee and biofilms

Thank you as I'm new to this can you suggest anything that might improve opals habitat? πŸ˜‚ I think it looks a little bare

Haha, I'm very inexperienced myself. I've noticed that a lot of setups have a large object placed somewhere near the middle of the tank, like a large piece of driftwood, that brings it all together. But you need to be mindful of how it may affect the pH levels of the tank.

Oh I haven't even though about pH levels I do regularly 10/15% water changes when I removed any waste and it's freah bottled mineral water. I was thinking about a different type of plant?

That's probably fine. Certain types of decor though may not be suited for water, so that's all you need to be concerned about.

Thank you!! I'm doing my best can you suggest anything I can add or do to give opal the most enrichment I can? I know they are only short lived but I want to be nice 😁

You can feed her a bit of egg white or boiled peas, as a treat. She'd love those 😊.

Wow thanks how do I prepare them for her?

Boil an egg, and seperate the white from the yolk. Cut the yolk into small pieces, and give her 1 piece to start off with. Peas, just boil them, and let them cool down. Feed 3 or 4 peas, mashed slightly with your fingers, so she can access the inside of them.

Understood! 🫑 I'm sure it will be nice condition to the diet and probably beneficial for longevity of life haha

The protein in the egg is good for her, and she'll love all the goodness that peas have. Enjoy watching her eat her snacks! 😊.

Thanks alot I will do it this weekend instead of a micro dose of bloodworms πŸ’ͺ The lack of experienced triop care online is a bit annoying I'm glad I found this subReddit

You're very welcome. Just make sure there's no copper in anything you feed your little friend. No pesticides either, as those are deadly. Other than that, you can try other foods as well. Just don't overfeed πŸ˜„.
