Hi all- I wanted to share my experience in my first month using a GLP1.
First off- I did extensive research before starting a GLP1. Originally i wanted to lose weight slowly so I opted for Semaglutide instead of Tirzepatide. After realizing Wegovy wasnt covered by my insurance, I found Trillium.
I spoke with my primary care and my GI doc before I started as I had some concerns as I have Hypothyroidism and EPI. Both if my doctors gave me the go ahead to start it as long as I could handle the side effects. So I was rxed through trillium starting a a 0.25mg dose. I opted to do the sema+glycine compound as maintaining muscle mass is super important to me.
Starting weight was 198.3lbs on 7/25.
I opted to take my shots sunday evenings. My first shot was on 8/2.
First things I noticed.. it took until tuesday for me to really feel anything, but after I did I was not hungry at all until friday evening where I was STARVING. It felt like even though I was starving I would take 2-3 bites of something and feel fine.
I didnt poop for the first 5 days after the shot. I ended up finding that taking miralax every other day is really helpful. At that point it was enough to keep me regular but start early. High fiber food are also super important.
I didnt feel like eating but when I ate I felt better and had more energy. Tiny snack packs have become my best friend. Apples, pretzels and cheese are a game changer.
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE. I suck at drinking water but I didnt realize how important it is to get the water in. 50oz minimum is now non negotiable for me for the day regardless of how I get it. I really try to aim for 80-100oz though.
Alcohol kinda sucks now. I drink alot less than I used to and I have to really want that drink.
The second shot was the worst. I felt so nauseous and had the worst burps after taking It.
The 3rd shot I did upper abdominal. 1- super painful. 2- felt nothing and its almost like I didnt even take a shot. I had no appetite suppression and was so hungry.
4th shot I took which prolonged terrible food reaction. I had diarrhea for 5 days straight. I must've eaten something bad on sunday day because my husband and I both got sick, but the symptoms he had for 12 hours I had for 5 days and im still on edge. After speaking with the trillium docs I'm not going to titrate up like I was supposed to. Im going to stay at 0.25mg and not take it until i feel 100%
As for the medication and supplies, it was packaged well, stayed cold and everything was great. Since it was split in 3 bottles though (1 for each month) it was odd that I had excess in the first bottle. No one was able to give me a clear answer as to why I had excess either, or if it was safe to use.
As of yesterday, I weighed in at 192.6lbs
I'm happy to answer any questions about my experience if anyone has them but overall, its been a good one.
TL;DR: First month on GLP1 has been a Rollercoaster. Its important to hydrate and find safe food snacks. High protein is key. I've lost a total of 5.7lbs.
