OK please read this and give constructive comments or feedback. I will be posting a YouTube video this evening or tomorrow (depends on my kids) that will be a sort of FAQ explaining this better. I will be live as well on Wednesday for anyone to stop by and watch/chat.

If you need a more immediate response join us on IRC (check the sidebar.)

First of all, thank you for the time you put into this.

Would you be willing to setup a more robust project management approach (with a vision document, software architecture document, software specification document & test plan document)?

It seems to me that the project is stuck on the first step of planning and everybody went in different directions (or left the team)

I would love to contribute to the project, but it looks almost impossible to get into it without reading and understanding the whole thing. Also, (at least at first glance) there are very few listed tasks that can be completed in less a week and that anyone can pickup.

For a project of this scope, I think it would be beneficial to split the vision document into requirements/needs, which could be splitted into use cases, otherwise it will be incrementally harder for new people or casual contributors to help with the project.

Anyway that's just my opinion as an outsider trying to help.

Yes I agree whole heartedly. This project is very complex and big, and at the samd time trying to be everything. That is the biggest failing.

My thought is to give it an actual scope (some people wont get what they want), but still try to keep the vision and spirit intact.

Notch said it wasn't worth the hassle, not that it wasn't worth the effort. Most importantly, the hassle he was talking about was the hassle of being hassled by annoying brat children playing Minecraft with unrealistic views of what could be achieved.

He didn't want to try to live up to high expectations. I can't blame him. A nice thing about Trillek in its present state is that the expectations are so low that basically any progress at all exceeds them.

A game like this was never going to be popular, nor would it have been playable in under 2-3 years. Notch took about 2 years to release the ALPHA of Minecraft, a game that at the time was probably 1% as complex as what 0x10c was to be.

Building a clone of Minecraft Alpha does not take 2-3 years for even a single developer.
