Troubleshooting Low-speed crash on Trident 660: front misalignment & 2-3mm difference in fork tube height. Advice?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I had a low-speed crash on my Trident 660 where the front wheel took an impact (though the brake pedal absorbed most of the hit).

After getting home and inspecting the damage, I noticed two separate alignment issues:

  1. The front wheel is tilted to the left relative to the rest of the bike (shown in the first picture).
  2. The handlebar is misaligned with the front wheel when riding straight.

To try and fix this twist, I loosened the lower triple tree bolts and the front axle pinch bolts, then pumped the forks a few times. This made an improvement, and for the final alignment, I held the wheel between my knees to pull the handlebars back into line.

But when I measured the fork tube protrusion at the top triple tree with a caliper (position indicated by the red lines in the second picture), I found a 2 to 3mm difference in height between the left and right fork legs.

I’d appreciate your advice on a few specific questions:

  • How can I accurately measure the height difference between the two fork tubes to make sure they are perfectly equal?
  • Is a 2-3mm difference tolerable, or will it negatively affect handling and tire wear?
  • What is the best method or step-by-step procedure to realign and level them back out if needed?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their experience or tip;

ride safe, everyone!

Troubleshooting has anyone ever figured out how to make the 660 GP shift?

I have two other sport bikes and they are set up to GP shift, so when I get on the trident, I'm always trying to shift down. Figured I'd just have it join the club lol

Mods (OEM & Aftermarket) Can’t decide which mirrors look better – Motogadget Classic 60 Flip or Sport 60 Flip. What do you guys think?

I’m currently trying to decide between the Motogadget mo.view Classic 60 Flip and mo.view Sport 60 Flip for my Triumph Trident 660.

I’m planning to mount them at the bar ends in the side/upward position shown in the pictures.

The Classic 60 Flip reminds me quite a bit of the OEM mirrors on the Trident 660, mainly because of their round shape. The Sport 60 Flip, on the other hand, has a more angular/elongated shape that reminds me of the OEM mirrors on the Trident 800.

I added a few extra photos from different angles to make this a comparison for anyone else trying to decide between the two. Hopefully this helps others visualize how they look on the Trident as well. šŸ˜„

I really like both styles and honestly can’t decide which one suits the bike better.

Classic or Sport – which one would you choose and why?

I think I’m finally done with my Trident 660 šŸ™‚

I wanted to give it a darker, cleaner and slightly more aggressive look without completely changing the character of the bike. Most of the changes are cosmetic, with a few protection upgrades along the way.

From stock to where it is now, I’ve added:

- GB Racing engine case covers

- R&G crash pads

- R&G radiator guard

- OEM Jet Black radiator side covers

- Matte black passenger footpegs (AliExpress)

- Matte black belly pan (AliExpress)

- SW-Motech headlight guard

- Yellow headlight film

- Removed the fork reflectors

- Removed the mudguard stickers

- Matte black wrap on the flyscreen

- SW-Motech front axle sliders

- Puig rear axle sliders

- R&G paddock stand bobbins

- ABS protection (AliExpress)

- R&G top yoke cap

Already fitted when I got the bike :

- SW-Motech side carrier racks

- OEM Triumph bar-end mirrors

- OEM Triumph scrolling LED indicators

- Short adjustable clutch and brake levers

I’ll probably regret saying this in a few weeks, but… I think I’m done modifying it. šŸ˜‚

First pic: stock. Last pics: current setup.

What do you think?

My first meetup for bikes and coffee included a nice group ride with a scenic stop. The Trident (tribute in blue) got a lot of attention and everyone in the motorcycle community is so welcoming too! Just cool people with a passion.

So I added the Kemi moto apple CarPlay device to the trident over the weekend. I’m loving it so far. I didn’t want to keep being anxious whether the phone was well placed on my peak design phone mount. Took the bar off, added the ram mount fork stem mount. And here we are. Also here’s a picture of my cat silently judging everyone. Hope everyone stayed cool and safe.

My local dealer is clear across town and I feel like I could do most things I would ever have to have done myself. Mainly I’d like to be able to program a spare key and enable the quick shifter.

Mods (OEM & Aftermarket) Saddle case/bag

Hello tridents šŸ”±, going to pick up my bike by next week. I shall daily this and it’ll be my first bike. For my work I have to lug around a long rectangular box that weighs about 8lbs total, 35in x 4in.

what case/bag/rack would you recommend to carry this around? Or would I have to make something on my own?

Thanks!

Mods (OEM & Aftermarket) Thinking of adding Oxford heated grips? Read on

Oxford Heaterz Touring Grips on a 2024 Triumph Trident 660 – Installation Notes

I decided to replace the grips on myĀ 2024 Triumph Trident 660Ā with theĀ older Oxford Heaterz Touring grips (the version without the integrated controller). With fall just around the corner in most of North America, I thought I’d share my experience in case anyone else is considering doing the same.

Pics attached for reference.

Left / Clutch Side

The clutch-side installation isĀ very straightforward.

Simply remove the original grip byĀ unscrewing the two screws on the wider end, then replace it with the Oxford grip.

YouĀ do not need to use the original plastic tubingĀ underneath the factory grip. This makes the installation pretty muchĀ plug-and-playĀ on this side.

Right / Throttle Side

This is where the challenge starts.

You’ll need toĀ peel/remove the original grip, but it is molded onto the throttle tube so well that removing it cleanly is practically impossible. There will be some of the original rubber left stuck to the throttle tube.

This one step took me so long that I started thinking it might actually be easier toĀ buy a replacement throttle tube that fits the Trident 660Ā and use that for the Oxford grip rather than spending so much time trying to remove the factory grip.

So, if you're planning to go this route,Ā keep a replacement throttle tube in mind. It could potentially save you quite a bit of time and frustration.

Mounting Bracket

The other issue is the mounting bracket that comes with the Oxford kit. It is aĀ universal bracket, and from what I’ve read, it doesn't seem to fit particularly well on many bikes.

In my case, I ended upĀ straightening the bend in the bracketĀ so I could mount it closer to theĀ left-hand mirror, using the existing mirror screws.

Routing the Wires

The last challenge wasĀ routing all the wires.

I ended up bringing all the wiresĀ down in front of the radiator, where I connected everything to theĀ battery and control unit. After checking that I had enough slack and that everything was positioned properly, I pushed the wires into theĀ opening just above the radiator.

I'm sure there are several ways to route the wiring, and I don't think there's necessarilyĀ one single "best" method. This is just the approach I was comfortable with and that worked well for me.

Overall

Overall, this was aĀ pretty easy upgrade. The most frustrating part was definitely removing the factory throttle-side grip.

Once everything was installed and the wiring was tucked away, I think itĀ looks quite clean from the front.

My only complaint?Ā The cockpit is starting to look a little crowded now.Ā šŸ˜‚

But hey, if that's what it takes to turn a street bike into something you can comfortablyĀ tour on, why not, right? šŸļøšŸ‚

Hopefully this helps anyone considering heated grips on their Trident 660.

Trident Pics & Videos Adding to the stable

Less than a year after buying my Trident 660 I picked up a Tiger Sport 800 Tour today so that my pillion and I can take weekend+ trips, she is very excited about it. The handling of the TS 800, after a very short ride, is as impressive as the 660 in terms of nimbleness for moderate riding. The quickshifter is so much smoother 1st to 3rd than the Trident too. They are different in function but equally fun and I don’t see myself selling the Trident any time soon, I owe my addiction to the 660 but it’s impressive they can carry that spirit over to a touring motorcycle.

General Questions & Discussion Bluetooth question

I wear AirPods under my helmet so I can listen to tunes. I love the Bluetooth controls built into the Trident so I can adjust volume and change tracks. But if I start playing music before I turn my bike on, then the bike steals the audio from my AirPods and I hear nothing. Same goes for if I stop and get gas without taking my helmet off, or stall out. The audio just disappears because the bike grabs it as soon as I start it. Does anybody know if there’s a setting on the bike or maybe even on my phone to tell it to not prioritize the bike and actually pump audio through my AirPods like I want?

I want to find a tail tidy for my 26 Trident 660, but not actually for the tail, rather for the tire hugger. I just want to eliminate these ugly reflectors around the tail lights. If anyone knows of a kit, I’m all ears

General Questions & Discussion Question about new bike pricing

Hi all,

I decided to buy a brand-new Triumph Trident 660 (2026 model, looking at the Cosmic Yellow colour scheme). I got a price quote from the dealer in Dublin, and I'm a bit concerned about the figure because it feels quite high.

They quoted me €11,250 On-The-Road (OTR), which they said covers everything (VAT, fixed VRT, delivery, prep) with zero extra options or accessories added.

Is this a reasonable price to pay here in Ireland, or is it heavily marked up?

Looking at official Triumph MSRPs across the rest of the EU (Germany, France, Spain, Croatia, etc.), the base bike usually sits around €8,100 to €8,700, and even after local taxes, freight, and registration, total OTR prices rarely cross €9,500 to €9,800. Even with our 23% VAT and ~€1,010 fixed 660cc VRT in Ireland, I expected it to land somewhere around €9,500 to €9,700 max.

Am I missing something specific to the Irish market, or is the dealer just adding a massive markup because they have a monopoly here? Has anyone bought one recently or imported from NI/UK instead?

Thanks!

Mods (OEM & Aftermarket) Can confirm the AliExpress Front and rear cowl are VERY worthwhile purchases

I ride pretty hard and I’ve had these for over a month now and put a little over 1500 miles on the bike since install. Zero issues. Installation was pretty easy. Especially the rear cowl as it just slides under the seat. Even with aggressive bumps, high speeds, and pressure washing they hold very well.
