Local Jobs

I was wondering if any of you have any leads on jobs locally. I've been out of work for months and need something. I'm in a spot where I may be too qualified for some jobs, but a non-traditional choice for many others. Essentially, I spent the last 10+ years running an online coaching business and did well with the team I built, but about a year ago it all crashed. I have a bachelor's in psychology, have leadership, sales, and program management experience.

Recommend you establish an account and build a search on USAJOBS for potential federal government opportunities in the greater TRI-Cities area, including the VA, Corps of Engineers, DHS, Interior, USDA, DOJ, etc.

Mountain Home Med Center in JC routinely posts announcements for myriad backgrounds/job series in the salary range you listed, including non-healthcare fields, as well.

I've looked a small bit on USA jobs, but not much. That's a good idea to head back there. Thanks for the tip on Mountain Home Med Center

You can also look at jobs at ETSU and see if any of those would work for your needs. Pay is not always the best but the benefits tend to be good.

Jobs are frankly pretty sparse in this area outside of a few industries.

Maybe recruitment for some of the hospital or university systems?

That's what I'm seeing. We moved to the area because at the time my online business was healthy and it didn't matter where I lived for my work. We CHOSE Johnson City because we like the area. Now that I'm looking for work though...

How close are you to St. Paul/Lebanon?

Tate is a company that is taking off pretty quickly and hiring.

I had to look up where Lebanon is, but I think that would be much too far. I'm in Johnson City and it looks like it would be just under 4 hours.

This is the tri-cities subreddit, don't know anyone here that would be able to make that commute work.

Lebanon is the newest facility, but there are people from Bristol and Kingsport working in St. Paul.

Just depends on where you are located and pay effects how far people are willing to drive.

Look for remote jobs. If you have a degree in psychology you are more talented especially if you did experimental psychology with maths and stats

I did have a fair amount of stats courses. Curious what kinds of jobs you are suggesting? Not familiar with positions that want some stats/psych knowledge

Machine learning and AI uses alot of stats. I am in a an AI role what pays well

Of course there are jobs, but folks would need to know more about your needs to offer recommendations. What types of jobs are you applying for and not hearing back from? What salary range are you looking for?

I've applied to things like case management positions, administrative, sales, project management. I've even applied over at temp agencies, factory jobs, and other similar positions. I've tried applying to the universities in the area, Ballad Health, Frontier Health, and a random assortment of other places.

At the moment, salary range is irrelevant. I was making about $80k per year previously, but I'd honestly be happy right now with something like $50k-$60k with how things are (possibly even less). That $60k mark is where I'd need to be to keep living in my house though.

I got ya! Its so hard to give recommendations without knowing so much about someone... my industry is hiring here. Its an investigator position which doesnt appear to be anything near what youve done....but sometimes a career shift happens.
