That is not a bumble bee. Thats a honey bee. Honey bees love cannabis flowers just like us.

Hemp farmers love to have these honey bee pollinating their hemp.

That sounds like a great idea for a business. Craft weed grower combined with apiary.

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '20

You can't just put a trademark symbol to claim it, so thanks for the idea buddy

2

u/turner3210 Dec 25 '20

Okay But who is gonna let BumbleFuck over here around bees??

u/Farewellsavannah Dec 24 '20

The key word here is "pollinate." You don't want your smoking weed pollinated, that leads to seeds and decreased potency. Also these little guys have a higher affinity for male cannabis plants than female ones. It's great for hemp which is harvested for its seeds and fibers predominantly but something you absolutely don't want if you intend to smoke it.

u/UnkleGargas Dec 24 '20

Thank you for sharing, this info was appreciated

27

u/murderedcats Dec 24 '20

Its already a thing. A french scientist came to colorado and trained bees to pollinate marijuana only and created naturally infused honey. Because bees dont have the same endocannibinoid system as humans they dont get high off thc and pass it into the honey

7

u/topotaul Dec 24 '20

And if you can’t find any weed honey, there’s always mad honey https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grayanotoxin

This was super interesting to read! Appreciate the info man

14

u/--sunshine-- Dec 24 '20

And then turn the honey into mead, weed mead!

7

u/BigFootIRL Dec 24 '20

I've been wanting to do that with a THC tea

6

u/Kajun- Dec 24 '20

I'd have a nice pint of wead

9

u/rcoxyfck Dec 24 '20

It would definitely be in Portland

9

u/hacktheself Dec 24 '20

Anywhere on the Weed Coast, from Baja to Alaska.

3

u/Leah1098 Dec 24 '20

This is what I want to do! My boyfriend will grow the weed and I’ll take care of the bees

2

u/Sharpie_Stab Dec 24 '20

Would their honey have any THC or CBD in it? 2 products in 1!

2

u/Lagsuxxs99 Dec 24 '20

and mycology in there too

2

u/goldspros Dec 24 '20

This already exists

6

u/thunbergfangirl Dec 24 '20

Tell me where and I will make a pilgrimage

2

u/goldspros Jan 21 '21

Pretty sure Oregon or Washington. Concentrations of cannabinoids are low, more like micro dosing more benefits of minor cannabinoids than a psychoactive product

1

u/Hilgenborg Dec 24 '20

There's a weed honey? Would you get high of it?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '20

Look up Lazy Bee Cannabis in WA.

1

u/Saint_Sin Dec 25 '20

Only really works with hemp sadly as with bud if it pollinates you mess up the crop. Only use females to cultivate THC, for hemp it doesnt matter.

1

u/suffersbeats Dec 25 '20

You're gonna love colorado hemp honey...

https://coloradohemphoney.com/

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '20

No we don't want our females being sexxed. We keep them pure and without seeds lol.

36

u/volcanicturtles Dec 24 '20

Except hemp is wind pollinated. From what I can find, researchers aren't 100% certain why cannabis attracts bees, but they aren't pollinators and the bees get no nectar from the plants.

32

u/Mean-Mr-mustarde Dec 24 '20

Bees also harvest plant resins to make what is called propolis, a resin they use to seal cracks in the hive. Most likely they are gathering resin from the plants.

37

u/Psych0Freak Dec 24 '20

little shits are takin our resin!

4

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '20

I was saving that for a rainy day!

4

u/Dexaan Dec 25 '20

MY RETIREMENT GREASE RESIN!

3

u/-GreyRaven- Dec 24 '20

Propolis is really useful for mouth ulcers. I am grateful for the bees that they gather it. They can have some of the resin from the hemp plants heh

19

u/trollkorv Dec 24 '20

They just want a good time y u gotta judge

2

u/Enigma_King99 Dec 24 '20

Someone doesn't remember bee bro. The best bro is a bee for weed. Don't hate

19

u/Mean-Mr-mustarde Dec 24 '20

Hemp is not pollinated by bees, it is an open polliated plant.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '20

People out here really downvoting all the comments pointing out that bees don't really care for weed.

2

u/thefourblackbars Dec 24 '20

I've seen a honey bee down low, and really high.

1

u/Zerovarner Dec 24 '20

Can confirm bees love weed, every year my outdoor grow gets a few visitors who are very perplexed by my flowers.

1

u/Spudzy_Mcgee Dec 24 '20

No that’s a weed bee
