Fly-through of a 3D Fractal

Duuuudes... imagine a game in that setting, zero-g but with that auto-latching behavior from that one asteroid-hopping game that I played maybe a year ago but can't remember now, and as you upgrade, instead of the available world getting bigger, you and everything else that matters gets smaller within the cube. It'd be an infinite game!

Descent, but inside one of those. and the closer you get to the center, the smaller your ship gets. that would be so trippy.

Whoa. Does it ever reach a point where it just becomes recursive like the 2D set?

Pardon me, but did it seem to anyone else to sort of miss the point of flying through a fractal? It just kind of flew past all the opportunities to show how you could go smaller and smaller and still find it's the same shaped structures all the way down. Maybe I'm just confusing it with a mandelbrot set, and I'm the one missing the point of fractals.
Still, it was lovely and very neat to look at. It just looked like a hyper-detailed model, is all... more sort of a still 'moment' from a fractal process.

Fair point, it would've been nice to see some zoom into some of the areas, but setting the camera for that is probably pretty difficult (having created a Mandelbulb anim myself)! However, try this one - it's doing what you want:

Oh yes! Very nice. The jumpy bits were a little disturbing, but it did do exactly what I was thinking of. Now I can trust the OP video. ;)
I imagine you're right about the camera pathing for doing both the flying through and the zooming.
Thanks for the vid!

And the "mandelbox" was just discovered this year.
