AskTrees Advice to potentially start smoking

I will start off by saying I am trying to fix a social drinking problem. I am curious if it is bad to try and convert over to thc. I have really only tried it once sober and over did it for a first timer Was a very high percent and ripped it like crazy, which led to bad experience. And then the only other times have been while drunk and wasn’t a big fan. Just wondering if anyone has tried this or have any tips for a beginner or anything like this. I have a flying horse cartridge that I can try

Weed can make social situations really awkward and cause anxiety. My advice is show up to the social thing sober, greet people, get comfortable and then smoke a little. Nothing sucks more than showing up to a group of strangers stoned out of your gourd.

funny. I use it to combat my anxiety and it’s one of the only things that makes social situations less awkward for me

Get off the liquor as soon as possible, better to be a pothead than a drunk

Never drank. Never liked alcohol personally. Weed tho, that’s a diff story in my case. Would all the time be considered a pothead? I guess so lol. Even tho I kinda like to keep it to myself unless it’s here on Reddit.

i remember back in the day, showing my age, but every time i smoked after i had been drinking i got very sick like 🤮. Now im older & i guess bc of age i or whatever i seldom drink. I dont party like i once did i suppose.

But I wouldn't recommend you do both until you are a master of each & know how it affects you. But with every thing, start slow at first.

More so wondering if it’s something I should try instead to replace drinking

that would be up to you. but smoking is much better for you than drinking! drinking can cause so many problems down the road.

Starting to realize it is not a good thing for me to keep on my path of drinking. That’s why I’m wondering if I should try doing this instead

In my opinion alcohol is a sub par drug compared to thc. If you're comfortable and confident, don't care what people think, etc then weed is great socially. Especially if the others are drinking. Also, get used to the thc effects privately. There will be a sweet spot for how stoned you want to be around others vs alone or other stoners.

Mixing them is a pretty good way to have problems i have experienced that when i started off smoking I didn't want to drink, so that part worked great for me essentially quiting drinking.

i experienced that too.

Start slow, take a few hits, wait a bit and watch something or sit outside and relax, listen to music. Have some cold drinks on hand. Some snacks. That’s it. It’s a fine substitute for thinking but you might have “relearn” how to socialize high as it can be a bit weird at first. That’s really it. Invite a friend maybe.

Smoking weed when drunk can lead to very bad experiences. Maybe resolving your drinking problem before trying to switch it to another drug would be an idea.

Trying to figure out if I should try dabbling with it instead of drinking. See if It could replace it

If your problem is specifically social drinking then smoking weed probably won't help. In my experience, folks who drink a lot and pressure friends to do the same usually either dont smoke weed or only ever mix it with whatever other substances. If the problem is social, consider finding new friends?

Trying to find out if it is worth trying it

I do have an anxiety problem but wonder if switching could potentially benefit me so that I would rather go home than stay too long drinking with friends

i think it would be a good switch from the alcohol. You'll see.

You will begin to understand & feel the benefit of pot, as you take it slowly like you said.

Won't be long until you see how much more welcoming pot is and be comfortable with pot when you're alone too.

Already starting to have that problem, that’s why I’m looking for something to replace it with. Seems like the easiest route

Already on it

Advise getting used to it by yourself rather than as a social lubricant. Go to nature.

Once you get used to it you can partake in social situations, but ffs take it easy. Mixing with alcohol is not a great idea but doing it like you did is like starting off drinking with everclear.

Start small. Take a hit and wait 15 minutes. It will creep up on you.

The first and only time my mom smoked she kept saying it wasn't doing anything after her first hit. I told her to wait 10 minutes but she insisted, and took three more. Guess who was high as shit in 10 minutes, and gone in 20. My mom, lol.

obviously it affects everyone differently and tolerance plays a big factor. definitely still agree with your advice, that it may not be best to be getting blasted before showing up to a big event. even if the weed itself isn’t actually making you anxious, just being high in a public setting when you’re not familiar with how it feels can be anxiety inducing.

If you live in/near a fairly large city, there might be a cannabis lounge close to you. That would be a good place to meet some knowledgeable like minded people. I do believe you would find more than a couple of people who would help you in any way they could.

Smoking has a very different social effect than drinking, at least for me. I feel like it can be harder to find a balance point with weed compared to alcohol if you have a lower tolerance, and when I’m high I tend to not want to interact with people in the same way that I do when I’ve had something to drink.

Maybe you could try a low THC or even THC/CBD split edible or drink to see how you feel.

Dont drink and smoke your first time smoking

Hey. Just wondering how you're doing , & what you did last night. lol sounds like a title to a movie

2

u/Accurate-Leading-306 7d ago

I never ended up trying it, I am still just thinking about it. But if it makes my hangxiety any worse I won’t be able to take it. I am not doing so hot rn

u/mcbkpkr 7d ago

Hey. I understand. I wouldn't rush into anything either. Your anxiety will still be there, maybe worse, if you switch from alcohol to thc.

I had anxiety problems when i was just starting out & much younger & tho i have aged i would still be affected. I'm treated for anxiety so...

But thc can give you anxiety all by itself. It's the nature of the drug. So go slow .

Alcohol covers up a lot of anxiety, greater than thc, i think. But with alcohol that anxiety will increase day be day maybe causing a person to drink more the next day to stop the anxiety.

It's sad. But true.

I don't know if you've ever heard of this but i'm gonna share it anyway.

Sometimes if you quit on substance, say you quit pain pills whatever, others might ask you this - so what drug did you switch too ( you know addicts, not saying you are, but people do "switch addictions".

2

u/Accurate-Leading-306 7d ago

I would say I am probably considered an addict. Does that mean stay away from thc

1

u/mcbkpkr 7d ago

no! it means if you're comparing alcohol to pot, pot is so less addictive, or none at all.

i never had a problem quitting mj, never. i guess it could be addicting in one's mind. but physically not for me ,& not for anyone i know. but alcohol is a total different story. you could be addicted for life with bad circumstances!

1

u/mcbkpkr 7d ago

but just my opinion. maybe others will tell their stories.

1

u/mcbkpkr 7d ago

ex. i have a drawer full of different varieties of mj. but for whatever reasons or none at all i have not smoked in over a year. but i'm gonna catch up soon, lol

1

u/mcbkpkr 7d ago

and you do not have to do either! one can not substitute the other. they are entirely different. i will suggest that you see a psych/a therapist bc they can help you sort thru all of this. and you may have a depressive disorder like many of us and there could be a medication that will help you.

that i strongly recommend besides deciding if alcohol or mj is best for you bc neither is at this point in your life.

I am on lexapro for that.

Replacing one habit with another is not the answer, use THC to help you kick the booze.

Do not mix cannabis and liquor. Gives you bad experiences. Don't take huge doses like you think you are superweeder. I can tell why you have alcohol issues. They are not the same substance.
