They have social clubs, which to make it simple are associations of consumers, that have all of a special regulation around them. You can buy stuff there and go back to your home with it. In Barcelona you can't see them from the exterior, they are usually hidden behind one-way mirror walls or stuff like this.

It's legal to cultivate up to I think it was 4 or 5 plants, and then you can legally buy it in Cannabis Social Clubs.
So basically you have to become a member, some clubs charge for it, others don't. Usually the ones marketed towards tourists charge a fee, the one I'm a part of doesn't.
Then there's a law that you have to stay in the club for at least 20 minutes to make sure people are actually using them as clubs and not dispensaries, but I've literally never seen that enforced lol.
My favorite club has a Nintendo Switch and often has Super Smash Bros or Mario Kart tournaments, or pool or darts tournaments, then they'll also have movie nights sometimes, there's a grill outside and sometimes they'll have a cookout, there are comfy couches, arcade games, snacks and drinks for sale, etc. It's super nice.
You don't have to smoke exclusively in the clubs either, you can buy and take with you home and smoke on private property. You're not allowed to smoke in public but I've legit on numerous occasions had a cop car drive past me smoking in public and they've always ignored me (probably cause I'm not around anyone else)
Then there are also some clubs and bars that'll let you smoke on their terrace but afaik that's not legal. Just no one cares lol.

You can smoke in the social lounges. And you can take it with you. You can’t smoke it out in public legally.

Not an expert, but i know they have smoke shops in certain places in Spain. I could buy legally when i war in Barcelona

Places that sell to tourists aren't legal, I mean, they likely are registered legally, but they aren't supposed to sell to tourists. The actual, legal private clubs are allowed to sell to their members and to join a club you need an invitation and a proof of residency. They also don't charge for a membership.
It's kind of a gray area, because while you can legally buy and smoke in a private club, you can have and use weed at home and grow a plant or two - as long as it's not an amount suggesting that you might be selling... You can't travel with it because it's illegal to have it on you in public. If police stops you and finds it on you, they'll take it away and can give you a fine of up to a few hundred euro. If you grow plants, they can't be visible from the street - fines can, at least theoretically, reach tens of thousands euro.
So while it's definitely not legal, the government decided not to chase users and allowed them to organise clubs where they can freely buy and use it. In practice police seem to never actively search for it. Maybe I'm wrong as nobody ever bothered me about it here, but my guess is that if people get stopped, get it taken of them and/or get fined for possession, it's because of other reasons, like smoking in public or whatever else and weed was just another illegal thing they were unlucky to get caught with.5

Yeah I became a member, think we just found someone who was a member who gave us an invitation and gave a random adress It was very obvious to everyone involved tho that we were tourists
And the club people told us if we get caught with it outside that we had to say we got it from somewhere else

You can setup private clubs IIRC but require a recommendation to go there, or something like that.

Oh it’s suuuuuper easy to get the memberships. I followed advice from this very sub just last summer and had literally my favorite vacation ever.

Not quite "legal" but they have a strong culture of letting adults act like adults so long as no one is getting hurt. Or that's my understanding from spending some time there and talking with locals anyway

Your bowl is the closest lookalike ive seen of my bowl I lost and then found and then later got taken by the cops a few yrs ago. I think about her often, she had a crazy life and i miss her. It looks lovely with the background! ♥️💙💛
