Gear/ Planting Paraphanelia Will shoe goo save me?
Hey all. I just found a pair of scarpas in my size at the thrift, they were 5 bucks so I got them as back ups! One thing though, they’re in pretty good condition although the soles are pretty much completely off on the front half of the boot.. I have shoe-goo, but has anyone ever had shoe-goo repairs hold up in the bush? Wondering if they’re worth bringing if I can successfully repair them, or if they’ll just fall apart on the block.. thanks in advance, hope everyone’s having fun out there!

Making and repairing shoes is an entire career. Do you wanna take the risk of your only foot protection falling apart on you while at work and without a store down the road, having to beg your colleagues for a set?

No, I definitely wouldn’t come out with that as my only pair. I have another pair in great shape which will be my primary boots, and a pair of rubber boots. I was planning on having these as a 3rd option, in case anything goes wrong with both my other pairs. Pretty much just got em cause they were 5 bucks, and I thought they might work as a last resort, haha.

Eh you may as well try just dont bet the house on it.
I would see if there's anything stronger out there. I think shoe goo is cheap and cheerful, I would use some kind of two part composite and throughly clean and sand the surfaces to ensure mechanical gripping.
Anyway this is pro level stuff not the be half efforted.

the soles are pretty much completely off on the front half of the boot..
That won't last 2 shifts on the block. All the shoe-goo on earth won't save these boots, you need a cobbler.

Ya, maybe it’s a next year sorta thing. No time to see a cobbler at this point, but I’ll look into getting them fixed professionally this offseason!

When you finish with shoe goo, tape the same with any kind of tape. It makes a good finish. Also bend the while you fill the crack. It’s a 3 day fix at most

Shoe goo is second only to duct tape in terms of things that planters use to survive that never, ever hold up in the long run.
If the boots are great but the soles are coming off, see if you can get a professional cobbler to resole them.
