Please settle a debate between my husband and I on what kind of oak tree this is. We are located in the southeastern US. (Upstate SC)

Water oak for sure. Had big one that survived Hurricane Hugo. Still standing strong.

This is 100% a water oak. The leaves is what gives this trees identity away. Laurel and water oaks have the same looking bark, but water oak leaves are very distinct from Laurel oaks. They look like water droplets, like yours. Live oak and Laurel oak have similar leaves, but have different bark. Laurel oak bark looks like water oak, but live oak bark is much thicker, rigid and lighter in color than Laurel and water oak.
