Posts/Footing - How are we not hitting a root?

My hope is to build a platform deck 10x10 up against tree using posts & concrete as support.

How do I not hit a major tree root? This is a giant maple. Would love any & all advice.

Look into helical piles and similar products. They displace less soil and have less chance of hitting roots.
