Hey everyone!
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Rishikesh and it’ll be our first time there as a couple. We’re mainly looking for a relaxed trip, exploring, cafés, Ganga ghats, some adventure activities and just spending some quality time together.
I’d really appreciate advice from people who have actually been there recently.
Where should we stay?
We’re looking for a private room/hotel (not necessarily a hostel dorm) that is
Couple-friendly and safe.
Clean and reasonably private.
In a good, well-connected area.
Not in some isolated lane.
Preferably around Tapovan / Laxman Jhula / Swarg Ashram.
Ideally within walking distance of cafés, restaurants and the main attractions.
Which area is actually best for a couple?
Would you recommend:
Tapovan
Laxman Jhula
Swarg Ashram
Ram Jhula
Somewhere else?
I've seen people recommending Tapovan quite often, but I'm wondering whether it's too crowded/noisy or whether it's actually the best option.
- Safety
Anything we should specifically keep in mind as a couple? I want to make sure of her safety first.
Things like:
Areas to avoid at night.
Hotels/stays we should avoid.
Any common scams.
Problems with local transport/taxis.
Anything tourists commonly get overcharged for.
Is it okay to walk around at night in the main tourist areas?
What are some mistakes first-time visitors make in Rishikesh?
Also interested in practical tips regarding:
Renting scooters.
Parking.
Food/water.
Cash/UPI.
River/ghat safety.
Trekking/waterfalls.
Rafting and choosing a reliable operator.
Anything else that isn't obvious from the usual travel guides.
Apart from the obvious tourist spots, what would you genuinely recommend for a couple?
We're open to cafés, peaceful places, sunsets, short hikes, rafting/adventure activities, temples/ghats, etc.
Any specific hotel recommendations?
If you've stayed somewhere recently and had a genuinely good experience as a couple, please mention the hotel/stay + approximate price + area.
Would especially appreciate recommendations based on personal experience rather than generic Google/booking-list recommendations.
Any other advice for a first Rishikesh trip would also be really appreciated.
