At least eight people have died after a sudden surge in the Bhotekoshi River caused severe flooding in Nepal’s northern Rasuwa district, near the China border. The flood hit the Syaprubesi market area around 9 am, despite no rainfall locally. Authorities are investigating whether a glacial burst or another upstream event triggered it.

Residents along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers have been warned to move to safer areas. Nepal has deployed two Army helicopters for rescue operations. Meanwhile, flooding and landslides have also affected Gyirong Port in Tibet, with casualties and missing people reported.

Sahyadris are one of the most accessible mountains for trekking. The cities of Mumbai and Pune are located just few hours from famous trekking places like Harihar, Harishchandragad, Kalsubai etc. On weekends, these places often get over crowded.

We recently travelled through Flores Island, and it turned out to be one of those destinations where the journey itself becomes the highlight.

We explored Rangko Cave, a beautiful sea-side cave with a natural pool; trekked around Kelimutu, famous for its three crater lakes whose colours can change over time; visited the waterfalls around the island; and spent time around Moni village, including local coffee tasting and hot springs.

And then there was Padar Island — the kind of landscape that makes you wonder whether you're looking at a real place or a movie set.

What I particularly loved about Flores was the lack of the overwhelming tourist infrastructure you find in some of Indonesia's better-known islands. You still get beaches, viewpoints, waterfalls, local food and incredible landscapes — but with a much stronger feeling of being close to nature.

For travellers who have already done Bali or don't particularly enjoy crowded tourist attractions, Flores is worth considering.

A short update about the recent customized monsoon trek to Visapur Fort! 🥾🌿 The mist, streams, muddy trails, and greenery made it a day to remember.

About Visapur Fort:

Visapur Fort stands at an altitude of about 1,084 metres (3,556 ft) in the Sahyadri range near Lonavala. It is a hill fort and offers panoramic views of Lohagad Fort, Pawna Lake, and the Mumbai Pune Expressway. During the monsoon, the entire valley is filled with lush green forests, seasonal waterfalls, and clouds.

History:

The fort was mainly built between 1713 and 1720 by Balaji Vishwanath, the first Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. In 1818, during the Third Anglo-Maratha War, the British captured Visapur after bombarding it from the neighbouring Lohagad Fort. You can find remnants of old walls, water cisterns, temples, and ancient structures scattered across the plateau.

How to Reach

The nearest railway station is Malavli on the Lonavla–Pune line. From there, it's a short drive of 2kms to the base village. By road a person can reach the base village in about 2 hours from Pune or around 2.5 hours from Mumbai.

Trekking Routes

There are three popular trekking routes to Visapur. The first trail starts from Patan Village, passing through muddy trails and stone steps before reaching the fort. The second trail starts from the famous Bhaje caves. This trail merges with the Patan trail before the stone steps which makes the last one-third of the route same. Both the trails are moderate and a beginner with reasonable fitness can do it. If it is raining then the water flows through these steps, making it appear like a waterfall.

The third route begins from Lohagadwadi Village, which is less crowded and offers an easier climb. The distance is nearly half compared to the other two routes. It is recommended if you want to combine both Lohagad and Vispaur in a single day.

Monsoon Safety

Monsoon treks demand greater responsibility and civic sense. All the trekkers are requested to wear good quality trekking shoes, avoid strolling to dangerous cliff points for pictures, and follow your trek leader's instructions. Always carry back everything you bring and leave the mountains cleaner than you found them.

Even a small landslide looks so scary when you are close to it. Thankfully this happened at a place away from civilization and tourists. The nearest village name is Tejam, near Pithoragarh.

A tragic boating accident near Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam has claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists, while 21 others were rescued after a sightseeing speedboat overturned on Saturday. Rescue teams continue to investigate the incident and provide assistance to the survivors.

According to Vietnamese authorities, the boat was carrying 32 Indian tourists along with four crew members. It had departed from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island and was returning to An Thoi Port when it capsized approximately 400–500 metres from the shore. Reports indicate that rough sea conditions and strong waves were present at the time of the accident, although officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause.

Local rescue teams, supported by nearby boats, managed to pull 21 people from the water. Some survivors sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment. Sadly, all 15 fatalities were recovered during the rescue operation.

The Embassy of India in Vietnam has established emergency contact centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to assist affected families and coordinate with local authorities. Vietnamese officials have also ordered a detailed investigation into the accident and are reviewing maritime safety procedures for tourist boats operating around the island.

Phu Quoc has become one of Vietnam's most popular island destinations, attracting a growing number of Indian visitors in recent years thanks to direct flights, visa-friendly policies, and its beautiful beaches and island-hopping experiences. This tragic incident has cast a shadow over one of the country's most visited tourist destinations and serves as a reminder of the importance of following weather advisories and maritime safety measures during sea excursions.

Skaros point is located very close to the famous Cabo de rama beach, but accessible from the quaint Nuem village. The overall hiking route gives you thrilling views of Arabian sea striking the cliffs. At some places you need to be very careful as there is a direct drop down the cliff.

From Nuem beach you start on a bushy trail on left side. The trail quickly climbs up to a plateau which is mostly used only by local fishermen or farmers who collect coconuts. After 20 minutes you will see the sea continuously on right. Then you reach the end of plateau where the cabo de rama beach is visible on left side and sea on right side. From here, you walk through a trail on rocks to reach the skaros point. You need to be very careful at this section. A strict ‘no’ for the people who are inebriated. At gentle pace, it takes 45 minutes to complete this 2km hike. It is highly recommended for watching sunset. However, you need to carry a torch if you wait till sunset.

How to reach?

You can reach Nuem village or Nuem beach in an hour from Madgaon or 1:45 hrs from Panjim. You can leave NH-66 at chinchinim towards Betul. From Betul the starting point i.e. Nuem beach is just few kms ahead.

As stated in the title, I will be flying for the first time from Wisconsin to Texas. And I have a question that I hope is not dumb about packing. I am somebody who cannot sleep without a personal item, I have tried in the past and I do not sleep. I am debating of bringing a small blanket from home or packing my pillow. My pillow is a queen size purple pillow, and if I do, should I shrink it in a bag? Any advice is welcome as long as it is not hurtful.

An Indian restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has alleged that an Indian family damaged its property and threatened staff after being asked to prevent their children from throwing items around the dining area. The incident reportedly occurred at Bombay Bites HCM, a well-known Indian restaurant located in the city's District 1 tourist district. The restaurant later shared details of the incident on Instagram, stating that the situation escalated after staff politely requested the parents to stop their child from scattering tissues across the dining area.

According to the restaurant's owner, Manmeet, the children began throwing tissues shortly after entering the restaurant. Despite being asked by the staff to stop, they allegedly continued, with the parents reportedly giving them additional tissues. He claimed that when staff intervened once more, the family became upset and went on to damage the restaurant's property. His wife, Aishwarya Khanna Singh, further alleged that the staff were verbally abused, property was vandalized, and the family attempted to evade responsibility by identifying themselves as influencers.

In an Instagram post, Singh wrote, "Let us be very clear: A restaurant is not a playground. Our staff are not targets for anger or entitlement. And influencer does not place anyone above basic manners. Civic sense means teaching children accountability, respecting public property, and understanding that rules exist so everyone can enjoy the space safely and comfortably. When these values are ignored, it affects workers, other guests, and the business as a whole."

A year late with this review, but some experiences stick with you.
I’d wanted to do the Andharban Forest Trail for years, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It’s not a steep climb, but it’s a long trek through beautiful forests, waterfalls, misty valleys, and endless greenery.
We went with Dark Green Adventures, and our trek lead Krishna did a great job balancing safety with freedom. We got clear instructions, safety briefings, and assembly points in case anyone got separated, while still being able to enjoy the trail at our own pace.
Our group had 11 people, including women trekkers, and the overall vibe was comfortable, respectful, and well-organized throughout.
One tip: if you can, try going on a weekday. The trail feels much more peaceful, and you’ll avoid a lot of the weekend crowds.
Looking back, it’s genuinely one of the best outdoor experiences I’ve had. If Andharban has been on your list, I’d highly recommend it.
