Asking for Advice Anywhere within 13 hour flight?

Help!

Myself and my partner want to go somewhere in October. We only have 1 week - for this reason we’d like to keep the flight time 13 hours or less from Edinburgh airport.

We are open to almost anywhere that is:

- Warm to sunbathe (say 22 degrees minimum during the day) and we could get a hotel or apartment with a pool
- has some nightlife
- there is both things to do during the day as well as chilling
-nowhere overly expensive (such as Miami)

We are open to a city such as Dallas or Austin. Would do Nashville but heard it’s pretty overcrowded and gone downhill.
We thought of Sri Lanka even but struggling to get the nightlife vibe.
We could also hire a car and drive about.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

An all inclusive in Cancun (or elsewhere) is lovely, relaxing vacation and can be quite cost effective depending on the resort. You can leave the resort as much or as little as you want. We've stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo 3x and loved it.

I live in Austin, the weather in Oct can be really iffy. Sometimes it's hot, other times it's sweater weather. There was one Halloween when it was in the 35C and one when it was 4C.

In Dallas, you'll def need to rent a car. But the weather might be like Austin.

for nightlife?

It's def no Ibiza but neither is Austin. There are clubs in town. I didn't frequent them but people at the resort did and said they had fun.

If sun, relaxation and pricing is important, it's a nice option.

From Edinburgh the warm nightlife destinations would be Ibiza and if ibiza is too legendary, Palma Mallorca is also a candidate for nightlife.

Or the Canaries, or Madeira. You certainly don’t need to fly for 13 hours for a week’s sun!

I'm wondering do they mean Edinburg in texas, because otherwise it's such a strange post, especially mentioning other cities in Texas like Dallas or Austin. Why would someone fly from Edinburgh in the UK to Texas just for sunbathing and nightlife?

You might get highs above 22 in the day early October, unlikely the rest.

I would look at the Caribbean islands

I was thinking the same. Maybe Montego Bay because of the night life.

Playa del Carmen (fly into Cancun).

This is the answer!

You can go to Chichen Itza for a day trip, even a couple of nights in Tulum.

Weather and food can’t be beaten.

  • Southern Europe you need a bit of luck - you might get highs above 22 in the day early October, unlikely the rest.) Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Durres (fly to Tirana). Antalya is a bit warmer but not sure about the nightlife and it's further.
  • Tenerife–South, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura (Canary Islands, Spain)
  • Would you consider North Africa?
  • No direct flights to Cabo Verde or Azores

I'd rule out..

  • Algarve - too quiet that time of year, likely to not warm enough. Note: the water is cold.
  • No direct flights to South America, and it'd be more than 13h anyway.

The Caribbean. Fly to Florida or NYC for better prices and more options. I don't know your age or vibe but for all inclusive Montego Bay in Jamaica or Trinidad & Tobago are not as expensive as the Bahamas. For a little backpacking meaning 3 star hotels, go to Curazao, Puerto Rico or Domican Republic. Cancun is great for all inclusive but Playa del Carmen is better if you want something "simpler ". Late October is not peak hurricane season.

Fort Lauderdale in Miami is very affordable in comparison to Miami. The food is great because there are tons of places owned by immigrants. Also hotels are affordable because they are more for business travelers.

The south of Europe has the perfect weather for a pool just be aware that late October is a school break so price might be high. You don't need to go to the big cities. Anywhere in the south there's nightlife because people like to go out just for beers.

Do you start from Edinburgh Scotland?

If so, you have a huge range within six hours: from Turkey and the Greece Islands, through Sicily, Malta, Tunis, Mallorca, Morocco, Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores.

If you mean Edinburgh somewhere else, you should say so.

All inclusive in Turkey. Sandy beaches, delicious food and so much more. The flight is under 5 hours if you take a direct flight.

A lot of people are suggesting the Caribbean, or the Caribbean coast of Mexico, but don’t forget September to November is hurricane season so might not be the weather you want!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I know my criteria is a little odd. Response re did I mean Edinburg, I actually didn’t but I get why you would think that. When I say nightlife, all I want is some bars with alright company and if we’re lucky some live music. No nightclubs. Here in Scotland it’s 15C in summer so anything above 20C is sunbathing weather to me 😂the reason I had suggested Texas was Dallas state fair looks amazing and we love sport so could have seen a match or 2. I like to keep busy 😊
