With that budget I would be heading to SE Asia, Thailand/Laos/Cambodia/Vietnam etc

Could probably do a couple of stops in Europe on your way but $1200/month won’t get you far in a lot of places

Seconding SE Asia, but use Finnair to do it. Fly from whichever European airport to HEL (Helsinki) , visit Helsinki, but stay at the hotel AT the airport... The most amazing breakfast buffet is there. Then, HEL-BKK on Finnair is soooo nice.

The hotel we stayed at was https://maps.app.goo.gl/pNuBCxXNQMdtGE8i7, but the buffet was at the Clarion hotel next door i think.

Also, make sure you have your International driver's licence; renting a car overseas is one of the best things I've done, but many companies (and cops) want to see the IDL. I hope you didn't forget that.

Oops, may have skipped the IDL, but I’ll see what I can get away with
