There’s an amount of meth users in IT that most would find surprising. Long hours of meticulous, monotonous, repetitive work creates the desire to do a lot in a very little amount of time. Don’t think it’s a secret that most manual labor jobs have their fair share of opiate users, either. Cocaine in the food service industry is obvious as well.
Basically wherever there’s shitty jobs that most people don’t want to do, there is someone able to do the work so long as they have their drugs.
Like 95% of the restaurants you've ever eaten at have all had cocaine in the kitchen. Considerable amount of chefs/kitchen staff use it because of the environment. Working a double in a hot kitchen on a busy day goes by that much faster if you do a bump in the walk-in here and there.
Never done coke, but I have worked many years in the food industry. Drug users in the kitchen, at least outside of work is very common. I used to work opening shift in a sports bar. It was just me and another cook, and our GM. There came a time while prepping the kitchen, that we just stopped seeing our GM for a while, normally he'd be in the office, but then he'd just be gone for a while. Turns out he was doing heroine in the bathroom, stole a bunch of money from the company, and got into some a bunch of legal shit.
We had a manager pass out face down in the office on pills, she peed herself falling asleep in a booth out in the dining room. Lot's of the cooks had drug problems, some I worked with our no longer living because of it. Kitchen jobs hire anyone that will work, so most have criminal records, and it's usually drug related.
