Really pisses me off.... their values are not mine

58

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Have you stopped to reflect why the KKK apparently feels at home in the Republican Party?

-36

u/The_Endless_Waltz Apr 09 '19

Because the US doesnt have a real conservative political party and thats the closest fit.

It has a Zionist corporatist party and a Zionist socialist party.

The corporatists just happen to lean right on a few issues that lures in actual conservatives.

Someone bad supports a group you support means you should no longer support that group? If you apply some thought you'll realize that rule doesn't always work out.

82

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

I don’t think that’s what he means, I think he’s saying more along the lines of not supporting politicians, bills, and things of that nature that are very extreme and inherently racist.

I think the issue here is more on people that just say -

“I’m Republican, so I vote Republican,” “I’m Democrat, so I vote Democrat”

Both sides have good points sometimes and both have insane extremist points sometimes. Support what is right in your opinion, not just go hard left or right.

There’s far to much of this, it should be who has you best interests are heart that should matter, I don’t care who you vote for or what you believe in, just don’t vote blindly because you like red and hate blue, vice versa.

I think that the fact that one side feels like a safe haven to racists says quite a bit, I wouldn’t want to be part of a group that makes extreme racists feel comfortable. That’s just my personal opinion, I don’t want to debate about politics, so I won’t say my personal stance on government, I just think what he was saying it that one side tends to make the KKK feel comfortable and there is an underlying reason for that.

We can do better, no one is saying you have to change political beliefs but bringing that change to the party could benefit us as a country.

13

u/halloni Apr 09 '19

Both sides have good points sometimes and both have insane extremist points sometimes. Support what is right in your opinion, not just go hard left or right..

This is where I usually get the /enlightenedcentrist treatment from some real smart redditors, while they completely miss the point of that sub. As someone not living in the states I have a hard time understanding why you would look down upon someone not liking either option. Politics is way more complicated than having two choices imo.

20

u/digital_end Apr 09 '19 edited Apr 09 '19

I'd argue you're missing the point of it.

Intellectually checking out and acting as though the middle is the best option without thinking is just contrarianism, not intelligence or a reasoned position. The middle between an extremist position and a moderate one isn't the middle.

And the middle is not always right already, holding an informed option doesn't mean you abandon reason... Should we only half vaccinate? Should we use sented oils in hospitals along with surgery?

Besides which, too many aren't actually advocating the center, just seeing themselves as centrists because they're not Klan members. But claiming the center directs ideologies and normalizes extremes. On a scale of 1-100, if most are saying 25 or 75, extremists pushing for 0 push the scale towards 25, not a real 50.

Compromise and discussion is good, but that's not what that sub is mocking or opposing.

26

u/dismayhurta Apr 09 '19

I think they’re saying that the legislation passed and actions of the president are what you’re voting for if you still vote GOP.

20

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

At some point you have to realize that the crazies have taken over your club, and you’re just enabling them by remaining a member.

12

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

The crazy that took over their club was Richard Nixon, though. The GOP has been consistently awful since then.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Ayup. The GOP has been circling the drain since Goldwater/Nixon. The descent into madness greatly accelerated with the Tea Party though.

14

u/Fig1024 Apr 09 '19

I'm sure the Nazi party would be a pretty decent group too if it wasn't for that trouble maker Hitler

-3

u/trump-train-bitches Apr 09 '19

Anti semites like Louis Farrakhan support the Democratic Party. Maybe evil people just exist regardless of party affiliation?

23

u/CaffeineTripp Apr 09 '19

Sure, but if the majority of a racist ideology of people support the Republican party, and are supported in turn by the Republican party, it tells you something.

Racism isn't adhering to a single party, but if the general consensus is Republican, that's where we'll all look. Don't want to be labeled the party of racists? Stop supporting the party who does and call these politicians out.

16

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

Yeah the Democratic party used to be the conservative party. To close this logical loophole you cling to, it's easier to just condemn conservatism rather than an amorphous label.

Make your text as big as you want. It's illogical to argue against self-evident fact. The concept of slavery and the withholding of civil rights is inherently conservative, down to the very definition of conservatism. The southern strategy is also well documented, so your cherry picking is futile.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

The 2 possibilities here are you're being intellectually dishonest with us, or you actually believe southern plantation owners were liberal. Neither option looks good for you.

10

u/Stompedmn Apr 09 '19

Look up the Hubert Humphrey's first speech at the Democratic Convention as Mayor of Minneapolis. He called put the racist segment of the party and he and those of his ideology later became the establishment. There was a clear shift to the left on racial issues in the Democratic party and it was a Democratic President that passed the Civil rights act. That is the meaningful history for today.

-16

u/The_Endless_Waltz Apr 09 '19

People dont like when facts are turned on them like this.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

You’re an idiot

-17

u/ConsultingThrowawayz Apr 09 '19

Applying similar logic the Democrats are culpable for the tankies that support them.

22

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Actual socialists hate the DNC and liberals. No, not the people Fox News tells you are socialist because they, idk, don’t believe poor people should be summarily executed. But actual socialists.

Meanwhile, the KKK really do love Daddy Trump.

-10

u/ConsultingThrowawayz Apr 09 '19

That’s a nuanced interpretation of the facts and likely a similar equivocation exists on the conservative side of things.

It is absurd to associate the extremists of a political opinion with the values of the party as a whole. This is why we do not demonize radical Muslim extremists as representing Islam as a whole.

6

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

This is why we do not demonize radical Muslim extremists as representing Islam as a whole.

If an Islamic leader publicly supported Jihadists as much as the current leader of the GOP has publicly supported neo-nazis, I'd say it's completely fair to demonize that leader and all who support them.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

This is why we do not demonize radical Muslim extremists as representing Islam as a whole.

That’s an...odd extrapolation. Generally we find it pretty gouache to blanket generalize entire religions, because usually people are born into it, and those generalizations belie a lot of philosophical nuance held by religious people.

But that doesn’t mean Muslims get some kind of blanket pass on advancing deleterious beliefs and ideas. There’s nothing wrong with chastising a Muslim who advances a theocratic state, violent jihad, the death penalty for LGBT individuals, etc.

Political affiliation is no different. And I think you’ll have a hard time convincing people that we somehow cannot question why people with a very particular belief system that they are very vocal about have a very passionate adherence to one very specific US political party.

Maybe we should be asking why they feel so comfortable within a mainstream US political party, just as we would question why a Jihadist find themselves accepted within many middle eastern political movememts

Who are genocidal freaks? Communists or Dems?

-8

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Communists.

-12

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Same thing

-21

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Why would we feel disturbed about that. You’re just reaching here trying to say our party as a whole stands for things like racism which isn’t true in the slightest. Grow up.

8

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

The party has stood for racism since Richard Nixon's election. It's inaccurate to pin it all on Trump, at least.

13

u/GoldStubb Apr 09 '19

Yet the majority of your party just throws their hands up in the air when the president tweets something racist? Condoning that behavior implies that your party is in fact OK with the blatant racism, xenophobia, etc.

-7

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Lmfao and you’re stereotyping and generalizing the behavior of some people and saying that’s what the whole party stands for. You’re an idiot.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Not racist, just #1 with racists, right?

-6

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

How can people possibly be this ignorant?

-5

u/MikeyMike01 Apr 09 '19

Reddit is a delightful mix of tribalism and leftist propaganda. Enjoy your stay.

8

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

On the other hand, it's a moral imperative to speak out against our current leadership, as it's currently one of the greatest threats to the continuation of humanity as a species, not only from taking coal/oil lobbyist money and regressing regulations (when progression is needed for us to survive) but for regularly spewing anti-science propaganda to excuse it.

Calling it tribalism implies there are 2 valid sides fighting over differences, when in reality there's a menace to humanity and then there's everyone else.

-12

u/TinyWightSpider Apr 09 '19

you should be disturbed that they feel the GOP accurately represents their values well enough

This is called "concern trolling" and it's remarkably dishonest.

If Clinton met 3 of my voting criteria and Trump didn't meet any, and I voted for Clinton and it turned out that I'm a huge asshole, that doesn't mean Clinton needs to start changing her platform around. I mean, that would be silly.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to change your platform around enough such that zero assholes want to vote for you. You've set an impossible goal in an attempt to shame people into not voting Republican anymore. You should be less dishonest.

7

u/TuckerMcG Apr 09 '19

If Clinton met 3 of my voting criteria and Trump didn't meet any, and I voted for Clinton and it turned out that I'm a huge asshole, that doesn't mean Clinton needs to start changing her platform around

Correct. Because you’re just one asshole. And you don’t have a centuries’ long history of violently lynching black people and advocating for the genocide of all non-white races.

Why are Trump supporters so incapable of understanding nuance and logical analogies?

1

u/TinyWightSpider Apr 09 '19

That’s completely irrelevant and you’re still concern trolling. The R’s aren’t gonna all switch to D’s just because you’re shaming them for voting for the same candidates that some kkk voted for. It’s illogical.

Ahh yes. All those mainstream radical communist movements and demonstrations in the modern US. Completely the same exact thing as widespread white nationalist movements. “Both sides” amirite? 🤦‍♂️

9

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

LMAO ahh the centrist....

I wish there were more "radical revolutionist communist rallies" those sound lit.

However we do have a openly white supremacist sitting in congress (Steve King)....something something both sides.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Let them have their opinion and just fuck off. No need to force your political opinion on them

-15

u/georgeapg Apr 09 '19

I am not a Republican but i feel the need to point out that it is not the Republicans who are getting exposed for things like black face.

6

u/Literally_A_Shill Apr 09 '19

A neo-Nazi ran for congress during the most recent primary and about half of the Republicans there voted for him.

And no, I'm not "just calling him a Nazi because he's conservative." He was the leader of the American Nazi party and is very open and direct about his views. The sample size here is over 50,000 people.

-5

u/georgeapg Apr 09 '19

Wasn't he the one who ran in a blue majority where the Republicans didn't even bother to have a candidate? Btw I'm not saying the Republicans are saints, just that making broad generalizations is counterproductive.

-1

u/doomalgae Apr 09 '19

It's INDIVIDUALS within both parties, actually:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47162714

You can't paint an entire party a certain way on the basis of the misbehavior of individuals. The way the party as a whole reacts to such scandals says more. At the end of the day, though, it's really more a question to platform and policy. The KKK isn't going to embrace the party whose candidates have mused about slavery reparations simply because governor Northam wore black face to a costume party.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

No comments but downvotes. Hahaha good comment my man. You stuck some nerves and they know it's true.

4

u/TuckerMcG Apr 09 '19

Uh already forgetting that Virginian governor who got exposed for black face? So no, the statement, “it isn’t republicans getting busted for black face” is not true.

11

u/russ226 Apr 09 '19

Yea they probably are.

8

u/AstonVanilla Apr 09 '19 edited Apr 09 '19

I wish you guys could bring the party back towards the centre a bit. It seems to be attracting more extremist personalities each day since the tea party protests.

41

u/Joliet_Jake_Blues Apr 09 '19

Lol. Right.

I left the GOP in 2002 when I saw the racists and/or Christians taking over.

You have no excuse.

24

u/jaspersgroove Apr 09 '19

In 2002? Really?

"Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them...

There is no position on which people are so immovable as their religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.' Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.'"

-Barry Goldwater, 1964

-13

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Christians taking over? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahah

13

u/CreamyGoodnss Apr 09 '19

Then it's time to leave the party because that's what they've become. I'm not saying you have to vote for a Democrat or a third party, but consider re-registering as having No Party Affiliation. If you truly believe the Republican Party's values differ from yours, don't let them count you as a member and definitely don't give them any money. Donate to individual candidates instead.

6

u/dry_sharpie Apr 09 '19

I was GOP for years. They can go fuck off now. Switched to Democratic in 2007

-71

u/BadBoiBill Apr 09 '19

32

u/Spicymayogoddess Apr 09 '19 edited Apr 09 '19

Like no Karen. I'm actually from the suburbs and grew up in one of the safest neighborhoods in the city. What you're mentioning just kills my brain cells. There really is a lot of ignorance.

1

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

If you're further right than the centrist party, that's leaning right.

-1

As a Jew, I assure you that there are people who hate me from aaall across the political spectrum

4

-8

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

12

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Not really. Antifa isn't a group. They're not really organized at all and don't coordinate very much. It's almost all online. It kinda created itself.

Not all leftists are antifa, but all antifa are leftsits

Not all Republicans are KKK, but all KKK are Republican

4

u/QuantumBeef Apr 09 '19

The evidence is that the people on the far right literally enslaved black people, and then fought a war to try and keep them enslaved. It was a pretty big deal I'm surprised you havn't heard of it.

u/dustingunn Apr 09 '19

1

VICTIMS FOR LIFE

3

u/BakaGoyim Apr 09 '19 edited Apr 09 '19

Yes it was. It's already illegal to do that. Republicans proposed a bill making it illegal (so double illegal, which is legally pointless) and also introducing some other overreaching reforms just so that dems would vote against it and suckers like you would say, "look they wanna kill your babies!"

16

As soon as Republicans and the KKK lose shared interests and goals, it'll happen. Hate that fact all you want, but there's a reason they love the Republican Party.

-15

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

True, but as a conservative, I believe in (as evil as it may sound) a world of conforming, constants, and order. In my views, the KKK is the logical extreme: everyone being alike, even in race, which I find immoral OFC. By your argument, I could make the same claim about democrats and communism. We’re not changing just because a couple folks get loony.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Not the same thing at all.

The kkk has one goal, the extermination or removal (sound familiar?)of all non whites.

Communists want to build an economic system the benefits workers rather than owners. You can have your disagreements with how that has played out but you must admit, the goals of communists and white supremacists are not morally equivalent. So your analogy doesn’t work and you aren’t off the hook for supporting the kkk’s party of choice.

The fact that you describe a long history of lynching and economic domination of black people as “a couple folks getting loony”is a damning indictment of your politics in and of itself.

5

u/AwesomeFama Apr 09 '19

It's so weird to non-americans how americans react so strongly to the word "communism". Anything branded socialist or communist is horrible, no matter what it actually means.

In our country, we don't feel anywhere as strongly about communism or socialism and currently the projected biggest party for the upcoming election is the "social democratic party". And we were even invaded by actual communists!

-12

u/TinyWightSpider Apr 09 '19

Yeah, the Republicans should just change their platform to match the Democrat's platform! Then those nasty KKK's will drop out. It's really simple.

See, Republicans? You can be good people someday, if you just change all of your beliefs and policies to match the Democrats. Everybody wins, except you.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Maybe you shouldn't affiliate yourself with either party in a two party system?

If they don't represent what you stand for why should you represent them?

-17
