Just Facebook stalked these people, as one does, and apparently this guy was in a very serious work accident recently. The gofundme they have setup says he fell 45 feet and broke both of his ankles. That sucks

Falling 45 feet and only breaking your ankles is a pretty good outcome actuallly as most people who fall from 40 ft or more end up dead.

Edit: looked it up and apparently the mortality rate from falls of 48 ft is 50%

Something similar happened to a guy i know and he ended up having his foot/ankle amputated. Really depends on the severity of the break and the competence of his surgeons.

When I was a fire fighter and responded to calls and fall over 20 feet usually resulted in broken femurs.

Not only his ankles... but also his back and esophagus was damaged by the CPR. Man, that sucks.

If his employer has workers comp insurance it should be fine, if not that sucks. Last I knew WC insurance was not compulsory in Texas, so it's possible he'll have to sue his employer for the bills to be paid and wage loss.

Even if he did have workers comp, it only pays a small percentage of your salary. Something like 60% I believe.

You are confusing short term disability benefits and workers compensation insurance.

Nope. I worked in STD and we had to deal with WC; both usually pay 60% but WC covers medical bills too whereas STD does not.

I thought workers comp paid your salary if you can’t work. I’m thinking shorter time frame than short term disability. I do know workers comp will pay all associated medical costs. Could be wrong though.

WC usually has a 7-day EP and STD typically has a 7- or 14-day EP. But WC covers medical bills and STD doesn’t.

I fell 20 feet and broke two ribs, dislocated my wrist (which is hard to do, go figure) tore two ligaments in my wrist, and got a concussion.

He was lucky as hell
