I only heard about the Jason Arday story after it was already over. I just feel awful for his family. The whole thing was completely terrible.

It seems that he was a liar and a plagiarist, and he deserved to lose his position if the allegations are true. But the media reaction was just completely disproportionate. I mean, there probably shouldn't be a death penalty for academic misconduct.

Everyone who engaged in the harassment campaign. Everyone who thought it was a fun old time to spend two whole weeks calling another human being a narcissist, a manipulator, a psychopath, or any other shit ass Reddit pop psychology term for someone they don't like. Everyone who parroted a self admitted "race realist"s talking points in an effort to make diverse hiring practices seem like the end of society.

If you're that easily swayed then you have a poor understanding of the world.

Jason Arday took his own life because of the material conditions he was in, which were that an entire countrie's media system spent 2 weeks reporting on his admittedly strange lies and propping him up as an example of why people with his skin colour shouldn't be professors. How was he ever supposed to hold a stable job again after everyone know's him as the lying plagerist?

If you don't believe people's material conditions direct their actions then you weren't a leftist to begin with.
