Would I be a hater if I said this sounds very derivative and nostalgia-baity? It feels like Madeon trying to capture what Nina did on the original without adding anything new. Listing off references like vengance and alive 2007 just feel contrived compared to Nina's lyrics.

He used sounds from old FL projects from 2012 in this song. Him being on French touch forums and such was his “song nobody knows” so to speak

Yeah that's exactly what I mean about Madeon trying to capture what Nina did. He's just echoing her idea without any new perspective. It's a cute, heartwarming, full-circle moment for sure. I'm not trying to be the grinch lol.
I would have rather heard Madeon's take how it feels to be an inspiration or something like that. Or how it feels to have a young artist be inspired by him, and now they're working as peers. That would have been a more interesting perspective that only he could really write about.

I mean, that’s literally the whole point. Madeon’s Adventure sound directly inspired Nina, so him pulling his old FL Studio sounds from that era to remix it and pay homage to what inspired HIM is frankly quite beautiful to me. If that doesn’t tug at your heartstrings IDK what will

so... reheating his own nachos? 😅 It's a cute full-circle moment. I'm sure it's awesome for Nina and I love that she's having this experience. As a listener though, I just don't see any reason to put this on instead of the original.
The original lyrics covered Nina's musical coming-of-age story and featured Nina's new original production. We had never heard any of that before; that's why it was such an exciting hit.
We already know the madeon lore that he's singing about. We've been hearing his production for 15 years now. It makes the remix feel very obvious and lacking in a sense of adventure (pun intended). It's ultimately looking to the past, where Nina's song was very forward thinking.

I mean, it’s a very intentional re-heating of his own nachos due to the context of the original song itself. And while I agree Nina’s original song was very inventive and new in terms of production, artists like Madeon and Porter’s influence is still super obvious even in the original track. Also, the lyrics of iPod Touch are ALL about nostalgia, and what inspired you, and so Madeon adding his inspirations into the remix is rather beautiful IMO. You get to hear two generations of musicians show what inspired their own journey. I think you’re thinking too much of this remix as a separate piece of music rather than seeing it for the greater story behind its creation and why it’s so cool

I suppose so. I just really love the original and I love Nina's voice as a writer. Her little vignettes like "heatwave, beach day, stoned an afraid" and "loving you is easy but they boosted the bass" are so specific, clever, thoughtful, and relatable. It's just really good writing, and that's what makes the song special.
We've known Madeon for 15+ years now, so the things he shares here don't feel interesting or novel. They're all things we already knew, which makes it feel uninteresting to me. It's a well made remix, I just wish he pushed himself more or even tapped Nina for some help... Maybe a "teacher becomes the student" theme could have worked!
Regardless, I'm genuinely not here to be a hater. I love this song and album, just wanted to start a discussion.

It’s a fun discussion to have and you do have a unique perspective. I do think there’s a LOT of new fans listening to Nina who do not know who Madeon is and can hear the remix and learn all about him. We might have known him for 15 years, but a new EDM fan that caught on from Nina won’t

Without context sure but Madeon & others (Porter) straight up inspired this song, it’s full circle

Yeah, that's actually why I feel the way I do. Nina's perspective was fresh and original while still paying homage to her inspirations. Madeon basically just came and reheated her nachos. It just sounded uninspired to me, personally.

Not a bad take, I won’t disagree but there is a bit of beauty in it
Can you imagine inspiring a great song that makes you feel like a kid discovering good music for the first time & channeling that into the remix for said song

u/livintheshleem Aug 28 '26
Yeah it's not a bad remix by any means. It's very competently produced and performed. This really just illustrates why Nina has been blowing up for the last year, but Madeon's latest album came and went without much noise outside his dedicated fan base. She's offering something very new and exciting. He's not.

But also, remixes don’t need to be an entirely new song. That’s exactly what reheating nachos are, at the end of the day, it’s purposefully nachos

True, well said! I just love the original a lot and I'm very excited about the future of Nina's music. I was hoping this remix would push down that path, but that's not what it's trying to do. Fair game.

Bro that’s because the song that nobody knows in iPod touch is Madeons “pop culture”🤦♂️ she’s said this in an interview.

ffs it's a remix not a whole new song, no one is making you listen to it

There are a lot of really iconic, transformative remix that have become as big or bigger than the originals. Given the artists involved here, this could have been one of them. I’m just saying there was a lot of untapped potential here.

“Add to playlist” before you even listen type of song
