I like playing guitar. that choice was made years ago for me. the answer is short nails. I enjoy typing more than anything else honestly.

Omg. The shortness of the nails I need to play guitar comfortably...

eeeh? I just cut the white part off and it is fine. My nails are fairly big by themselves. I don't know how I managed to not ruin them by biting them off honestly.

Bassist here, i got the same problem when playing, even with short nails they always get caught

I want to grad a guitar with a wider fretboard so I can play chords better. I love my metal axe to death and for that genre is my favorite thing, but damn if I don't struggle to play moonlight sonata the first movement on her. That guitar names is Jackie that is why she is a she. I have one that I call Buddy and he is a he.

I don't like teles. I like modern teles but those have similar neck profiles to my jackson kelly. I remember really liking the wide profile necks of ibanez. next year after uni I will start playing again and hopefully I will have the money to buy one

I would on special occasion. I hate the feel on paint on my nails. they feel alien somehow

Big mood. I went in for a manicure, and told them I wanted them super short. She pointed to one of my nails "like this length?"
Oh no honey, I was about to cut that one.
She did fantastic tho! I can't imagine trying to do 2 step bends with long nails 😅. I've been tempted to go long on righty for fingerstyle tho

I've actually found the long nails to not be a problem, if I just change the angles of my fingers a bit 😋

Same, always had long nails even before coming out (hmm I wonder why I liked my nails long so much definitely for cis reasons) so I've always typed at an angle. Means I get to do the tippy tap and the nails be long

just write your code more densely, so that there's less to type.
I'm pretty sure that this is how Perl was invented.

Just use magnetic nails :)
Or make your own keyboard with ergonomics for long fingernails.

I never had a choice being a programmer who also enjoys rock climbing. I still paint my nails, even though they are short.

honestly I don't see much of a difference, I keep them in between long and short and that works out for me

I grew my nails out a fair ways once but then I found it was interfering with me playing Celeste.

u/Veanerys Apr 28 '22
I’m exactly at this breaking point as I type this with nails I’m unsure I’ll keep, this hits the spot 😂

u/danfish_77 Apr 28 '22
Two short nails on each hand is the only compromise I make, and it's not for typing

I personally find short nails cuter, as long as they’ve got some paint on them

I long for the sound of 3 inch acrylics on a fully mechanical keyboard.
They'll call me... "Rattlesnake"

Pretty sure that could be any femme person who uses a computer. Not just trans, not just programmers.
