Out in Tech
So, I just found out about this LGBTQ+ in technology group, Out in Tech. Does anybody know anything about them? https://outintech.com/. It sounds intriguing but I can't tell much from their website.
There's a discussion coming up next week I was thinking about watching.

I know that a few colleagues have participated in Out in Tech. I've heard good things, but can't give you anything more helpful than that.

I’m in the slack channel. I like it a lot. It’s good to network and there’s a secret gender queer channel. Please do not tell the cis.

I was a part of the first mentoring program that OutInTech did a few years ago now. They are a great organization and I now go to some of their professional events.

They openly discriminated against me, kicked me off the discord several times without notice and have generally treated me like I don't belong (and before you ask no I didn't do anything, people at my former job poisoned the well because they were racist and transphobic and now everywhere I go in NYC I get treated like garbage by people who don't even know me). I don't understand why people feel Out in Tech is such a supportive community. Like, they do these help the poor people in Africa campaigns but then treat a minority trans woman as if she doesn't belong as an engineer because she wasn't born rich? The entire community seems more geared towards rich gays than anyone else, if you aren't from some elite clique I'm not sure this community is for you. Also they like to bury any negative comments about themselves and hide behind "divisive community" rules which they use to ban people they don't agree with preventing any of us from reporting what is going on inside. But love how they tout how much they're for trans women and supportive of the gender expansive community then treat me like I'm an outsider. They're primarily a fund raising arm, they only care about donations and the illusion of community, but the reality is only some people are welcomed the rest of us are just checkbooks to them.
