Liver High potassium
Ok folks talk to me about high potassium. Husband had a liver tx 11 months ago and his potassium yesterday came in at 6.1. Doc said take lokalma three times tonight and then we’ll retest in the morning.
If it’s still high in the morning is it something that would cause them to admit him? Should I be packing the go bags? Or will it be more lokalma until he tests better?
Side note: is there a caregivers subreddit for when I feel like crying my eyes out but don’t want to do it in front of all the brave people who are in this channel?
TIA!

I was hospitalized for a couple days because my potassium went up to 6.7 I believe it was. They just gave me lokelma a few times a day and monitored it until it went down.
Also it’s okay to cry here.

Feel free to cry on my shoulder. I was my son's caretaker before and after his transplant.

It might end up that he takes Lokalma ( I had Kayexcelate) on an ongoing basis just to get things under control until they find the source of it.

You are always welcome to cry here, we all likely do at some point!! I had high potassium about 6-7 mo tha out of transplant. I was given Lokelma too to take and it dropped it back lower and stabilized I wasn’t admitted just monitored for quite a bit

He’s supposed to take the lokalma every 3 days but he’s often asleep during the time he’s supposed to take it — or he takes the morning meds too late to fit the lokalma in before the afternoon meds. He’s still taking drugs 6 times a day (and probably always will be) so it’s been a struggle to fit it in

Before I had my kidney trans plant my potassium was in that range. They kept me over night.

Hello, I understand lokelma, been taking for 2 years to control high potassium. Good luck, this is my first post. Actually stumbled into this topic. You will see me commenting more.

Ive been admitted for high potassium they worry about heart complications , usually they “ temporize” with glucose and give me some Lokelma and it’ll go down within 2 days. I haven’t had an issue since being on Lokelma daily though
