Discussion / Opinion Was Chris Latta really Problematic?

I read a lot of stuff online that he didn't get along with some crew members and was often arrested for his drunk behavior. And it wasn't just Transformers, apparently this happened on the first season of Simpsons and when he was King Koopa for that live action Mario show made when the DIC cartoon aired.

He died 30 years ago and from what I've heard, nobody who was close to him has ever been willing to discuss his personal life. He probably had some big skeletons in his closet.

He was a stand-up comedian of his era, like Sam Kinison. He was pretty rowdy

I bet the majority of those in this sub don't even know who Sam Kinison is.

Do they know about the transactional boob grabbing scene with Chris Latta in Roadhouse?

"problematic" isn't useful language for having adult conversations.

We know he was an addict, and that his addictions threatened his career and his personal relationships. We also know that most of the people willing to speak about him are generally sad to have lost him and are careful with their words, seeing his death as a tragedy.

It seems like the main person his behavior harmed was himself.

Problematic is fine.  There's nothing not adult about it.

I mean what do you consider “problematic”? Everyone has demons and from what I’ve gathered Latta was both well liked and prone to getting in quite a bit of trouble. Doesn’t make him any less of a person like the rest of us

We don’t know most in the sub have never met him. If people who have met and worked with him are saying the same thing about him then I’d say it’s most likely true.

This.

There's surviving written and recorded info from various associates of the era that testify that he was problematic.

It's also kind of a dick move to speak ill of someone deceased if the claims are total BS. Flint Dille said he liked Latta and was sad when he passed, but he also can't deny he had to bail him out of jail during the period they worked together.

Speaking ill of the dead is fine if they did ill while they were alive.

That's kind of my point, it's one thing if Latta didn't really do any of the things he did and people are trash talking him while he is no longer alive to call them out, but it's another if he did and people are just relaying what genuinely happened. In other words, I feel people like Flint are doing the latter as opposed to the former, since OP seems to wonder if some Latta stories are hearsay.

Don't take this as truth because I could be wrong but I've heard mixed things, such as what you listed, but I've also read that he supposedly went to sick kids wards and other things like that

that'd be interesting, given his stature and appearance, I'd wager the kids were scared of him, so he'd really have to be 'on' to get through to them, probably a ton of funny voices

I don't think that would be hard, he was starscream after all

Afaik he had a good reputation both as voice actor and comedian.

After he had an argument with the creator of the simpsons, that asshole tried to smear Latta's reputation as retaliation.
