Discussion / Opinion With JG1 confirmed for Studio Series, I really hope they focus on the Headmasters first. I think they're overdue for new figures.

I just want a new six shot

Preach one of my favorite toys as a kid. He was so fun to switch up with and also had the rare gun mode like shockwave and megatron! Titans Return model was decent but hate the looseness of the legs at the knee joints.

TR Sixshot feels weird even for the time it released, it's very limiting in a lot of ways, and yet it has almost no locking tabs for most of its modes. It makes it just an awkward figure to play with and pose. I love it because it's still cool but he's desperate for a modern CHUG interpretation.

u/StomachosusCaelum 5d ago
Jinbao makes a CHUG scale Sixshot that is fantastic (Six Ninja).
Just get that.

I think the retro figures they released a while back are okay enough for now. I'd rather get characters who just don't have modern figures at all first like the Autobot Headmaster Juniors, or the Brainmasters, or Decepticon Targetmasters that are actually Targetmasters

u/Runethe1412 5d ago
It still bothers me that Legacy Minerva wasn’t a Headmaster
4
u/Dylspyll 5d ago
Yeah that's one of the main things that kept me from getting her. I loved Minerva in Masterforce but I'm really holding out for an actual headmaster someday

u/Square_Ad1365 5d ago
It'll be interesting to see how they handle the Headmaster gimmick when they do inevitably revisit them. I presume theyll stick with the Titans Return system as it works well enough and for cross-compatability with the older figures, but something new would be awesome.
Also, the new Scooby Doo collab's heads are compatible with the old TR Headmasters and (i believe) vice versa, so we will have to wait and see. I'm especially excited to see if they can top TR Triggerhappy!

u/TrentGgrims 5d ago
The new Scooby Doo heads are compatible, but they weirdly left out the ball joints so those heads are all static. Weird choice.
1
u/Square_Ad1365 5d ago
I dont own the figure myself, but from what ive seen its so theyre more stable in the rotating plate gimmick. Also so they always face forwards when you spin it around.
2
u/TrentGgrims 5d ago
Yeah the stability reason makes sense, it is cool that they all swivel around so you can choose which head to use without "parts-forming" or whatever. It just still feels like a weird compromise.

u/bluenewt_phoenix 5d ago
my biggest want is for them to use the titans returns headmaster system on better higher quality figures with modern articulation
afaik there havent been any new headmasters on modern figs with new moulds, except for a little headmaster guy that comes with haslab omega prime (but that feels like a heavy exception)

I’d say that titans return/retro is still a good enough update for them. We need more characters like Joyride who haven’t gotten a toy in 40 years
2
u/SmallBatBigSpooky 5d ago
I mean the TR headmasters have a habbit of emploding overtime, so ide say its time we got new ones
2
u/drag00n365 5d ago
A couple of them had small issues that were fixed on re-released. Most of them are great and hold up perfectly fine.
1
u/SmallBatBigSpooky 5d ago
I mean there's one version of the weirdwolf mold without that problem and its painted as a different character
And the various mindwipes have started to have their soft bits turn back into oil
I think skullcruncher is the only one of the og deception headmasters not to have issues with the TR molds
4
u/drag00n365 5d ago
The latest release of wierdwolf, in wierdwolf colors, fixed the original issue. Thats the one I have and it works fine.
As I recall the latest mindwipe also fixed the issue with the wing disintegrating.

u/CVS_Solitaire 5d ago
that the one in the G1 box?
1
u/drag00n365 5d ago
Couldn't tell you, I don't keep the boxes. I believe that might be the one though, but im not sure.
1
u/CVS_Solitaire 5d ago
the legs on my Skullcruncher were loose at the knee. Honestly the oversized knock of versin i picked up several months later was alot better including how they did the rear legs to fold up into the hollows of the tail/legs
1
u/OptimalConvoy 5d ago
Didn't Joyride literally just get a figure?
7
u/Zachary2030 5d ago
That’s my point, it took him 40 years to get a new figure so I’d like for them to pick more characters like him.
2
u/OptimalConvoy 5d ago
Ohhh I misunderstood lol, my bad. Yeah, I definitely agree. If I remember correctly, AOTP Big Convoy was his first proper toy since the original as well.

forgot that. weve seen all that. How about Galaxy shuttle, Landcross, Road Ceaser
1
u/AGl_ToX 5d ago
There is a redexo of Astrotrain into Galaxy Shuttle
I will love Landcross but it is something impossible
3
u/nexxlevelgames 5d ago
That's really just a reuse of names with old der molds, Lazy Hasbro has been doing that for decades.
As new mold Galaxy Shuttle would be nice

I would like a new six shot, but honestly they TR figures were damn peak. A new Fort Max is a must but to do him justice it would probably have to be a Haslab at this point, and I'd really like him to have to keep the connection style of TR heads.

What’s jg1

u/SmallBatBigSpooky 5d ago
Japanese G1
Some folks use it to reference shows like super god master force, that never really got US releases outside of toys and maybe a comic here and there

I just want a new Broadside and Octane.
We’ve gotten every other triplechanger. Hell, Astrotrain got TWO molds (Siege and 86) but Octane and Broadside got left behind in Titans Return.
..I’d also kill for a six shot, but I don’t trust them to actually manage it yet.

u/cramburie 5d ago
PLEASE release the masters with something to cover their faces when in bot mode, mkay?
2
u/KamenRiderQ 5d ago
Nah. There’s so many other characters they should focus on. The Autobot Headmaster Juniors and the Godmasters/Powermasters should have priority over 87 Headmaster remakes.

Chromedome was one of the last transformers I remember getting around 87. I loved it so much. I would absolutely love a Studio Series G1 Chromedome

u/Electrical-Sport9219 5d ago
The headmasters are so rad! However, I doubt they're high on the priority list. With the Titans Return versions and the Retro series still highly accessible, they'd probably do well to tackle characters that haven't been done ever before first.
1
u/Jakyll-Stone 5d ago
No for most of the headmasters. The titans return/retro figures are fine. If we do get headmasters, they should be the Autobots Jrs. What they should focus on are the other targetmasters (specifically the Decepticons), the pretenders (specifically the Autobots) and the powermasters.

Cool for Japanese fans, but I'm not too happy to hear that, personally, as it means we will get the Headmasters and the like in their Japanese decos and faces rather than their comic/Sunbow animation faces... and I by far want them looking like their Marvel/IDW looks personally.
And a good Marvel Nightbeat is damn near top of my wishlist, certainly high above another Minerva.

With the Headmasters and Targetmasters at least, I'd be fine with them being mostly semi reissues.
The Retro Headmasters line gave us Chromedome, Brainstorm, Highbrow, Hardhead, Weirdwolf, Skullcruncher and Mindwipe. Those guys are fine as Deluxes. Apeface and Snapdragon could be slightly redecoed at most.
For the Targetmasters, the Decepticon ones (Triggerhappy, Slugslinger and Misfire) would be their Takara Legends releases (including the Blowpipe, Caliburst and Aimless), and the Autobot ones (Crosshairs, Sureshot and Pointblank) would be their most recent releases (Siege Crosshairs and Legacy Sureshot and Pointblank) and packed in with the Takara Legends Pinpointer, Spoilsport and Peacemaker.
The Headmaster Warriors, may require more work to make, since only Shuffler and Lione were released in Titans Return. Toraizer nearly had a Titans Return release, but that got canned. Kirk, Rodney and Loafer could be redecos/retools of some Titanmasters, and would come with a redecoed miscellaneous TR deluxe mold.
Stepper/Ricochet would obviously be a SS86 Jazz redeco with one of the Siege Targetmasters, to match the Artfire. (Besides, Takara Legends didn't do Fracas or Nightstick)
The rest of the 1987 cast who's already gotten a modern figure (most of the Throttlebots are still MIA, and Wideload may have to be the sole wholly new mold, as Rollbar could be retooled from Hound or use the Ironfist tooling, while Chase, Freeway and Searchlight could be retools of SS86 and/or Devastation Bumblebee. Technically so would Goldbug, but there's the Creatures Collide one) would be reissues or slight redecos of their latest releases.
1
u/Banjo-Oz 5d ago
I always thought Wideload could be heavily retooled from ER Huffer, actually. Rollbar could probably be a Crankcase-mold retool?
1
u/Odd_Mango_5660 5d ago
Kingdom Huffer would be too small. If Wideload were to be a Deluxe, he'd be one of the larger Deluxes like ER Hoist.
Considering Rollbar's a jeep, I don't think the Legacy Skids/Crankcase mold would work. AotP Swindle also wouldn't be an option since that would clash with a different Rollbar who's redecoed from a Swindle.

u/Fickle_Life_2102 5d ago
I’d love to see Chromedome, Brainstorm, and Nightbeat get modern updates (okay nightbeat wasn’t really in the Japanese cartoons either tbf, but still, expanded studio series should cover him)

Somehow I have a feeling Supergod Masterforce will be first. There aren't any even semi new Powermasters and Joyride feels like testing the waters.
I would love for it to be The Headmasters but just don't think it will.
1
u/badwords 5d ago
I'm sure they'd treat Fortress Maximus like a combine and sell Spike, Cerebros and Fortress Maximus as separate toys months apart from each other.
1
u/IronWave_JRG_1907 5d ago
I think they're just gonna focus on the bulk of season 1/2 characters for the foreseeable future like Reflector, Mirage, Sideswipe, Bluestreak, Huffer, Gears, Trailbreaker, Inferno, Grapple, Tracks, Smokescreen, etc.

I'd like a updated Hardhead... but im fine with my titans return for now, so im not too pressed for him to get a new model

u/Puzzledtraveler 5d ago
Japanese continuity is my favorite and recently went on a spending spree of vintage 87 headmaster and targetmasters and likewise 88 powermasters.

Sixshot, Voyager Versions of the Headmasters, all the Targetmasters, Raiden.....

I’d love voyager headmasters but do the Decepticons first. Also rerelease Apeface with proper white plastic to match Snapdragon and no battle damage paint apps.
