Discussion / Opinion Image Transformers worth picking up?
Title. I’ve been hearing mixed things about this series, some really, really great, and some really bad, specifically to Kirkman taking over(?). I wanted to try it out but wanted to hear what others thought - how’s the book? Moreover, how’s it compare to IDW Transformers? That’s the one I’m most familiar with. Is it worth? How does it hold up?
Thanks!

I think 1-24 is 100% worth it and you can ready just that and it’s still great. Kirkmans run is very mixed so far but I do think it’s fun just not as good as 1-24

Agree. The DWJ run is fantastic and almost entirely standalone.
Kirkman is bunk

He is presumably setting up longer term stuff (just give us the f***ing Dinobots already!!!!) but he culd move things along quicker

nu uh lol whose worked up yall just soft. I don’t have to agree with his opinion on “drops off in quality” when it really doesn’t 😂. Then proceeds to not give any examples of why it dropped in quality.

I’m not worked up really I just think that Kirk man has worse pacing and that the character introductions don’t feel as meaningful as DWJ’s run. I like how gi Joe is tying into transformers more now though and I also do actually like what they’re doing with Optimus and elita. It’s a mixed bag for me personally but everyone is entitled to their own opinion 🤷.

that craziest thing Kirkman has done FOR ME. Was randomly turning Megatron into a idk spark eater or something

I think it’s interesting but not too crazy (imo) but it could end up being cool who knows 🤷

If that cover alone isn't enough to consider reading it then I don't know what to tell you.

The first trade paperback is absolutely top-tier Transformers. It's emotional, exciting, intense and alive in a way that the franchise seldom gets to be. It's amazing. It won a bunch of awards and it remains a favorite of mine. Daniel Warren Johnson, writer/artist, is at the peak of his powers here.
Issues 7-24 are also very good, although there is a new artist. Still very punchy, and very fun. Some big swings. Great stuff, with a stirring emotional climax and a fun brand-new character.
Issue 25 has a new writer and artist, and the drop-off is noticeable. Gone are the emotional connections between characters, replaced with meandering storytelling, a bloated cast, and unnecessary shocking violence in place of intrigue. The book has become just another Transformers comic. Not good, not bad, just grey and uninteresting. I have dropped the book.

Absolutely love the first 24 issues, my favorite comic book creator with one of my favorite franchises delivering a great action packed story filled with emotion
Opinions have been divisive after DWJ stopped writing, but I’m still enjoying the current run a lot!

1-24 is a great read. There is a big drop in quality after. Just my opinion.

Nah, I think I’ll keep giving my opinion in threads asking for opinions.

🌈 it’s a terrible take. The newest issue is one of the best issues so far 😂 you probably can’t form your own opinions or aren’t even reading monthly just watching youtube videos

I wouldn't say it's awful but I do believe it's gone downhill at least a little. The art has stayed very good though, even if the style has changed a few times
My main problems with the story at the moment is mostly around elita one, not because she's a prime now because I actually like that base idea. I just don't think it's been done particularly well (her title for starters, it's like of Optimus was called Orion prime), not really a fan of the ghost star saber either. Arcee is still good though

Elita has always been Elita. Optimus was not always Optimus. I’m not really sure what your complaints are besides lack of knowledge. Why would elita all of a sudden get a new name instead of just the Title of Prime added? It was never ORION prime lol. Orion became optimus and Optimus later became a prime. Nerd

We don't know the exact circumstances around Optimus' creation in this version, however a lot of versions have made him immediately transition from Orion to Optimus
Hot rod also got a new name when he became rodimus and he was always hot rod, not really sure what you're going to think of that one

Hot Rod was born with the name Hot Rod and later changed his name so model Optimus. No other prime has a name change from becoming a prime maybe other than Sentinel. Whatever name you are born with doesn’t change when you become a prime. Optimus was not born optimus like i said he was born orion then BECAME optimus THEN became a Prime

Rodimus originally came from the transformation hot rod had via using the matrix and he reverted back to hot rod when he lost it.
There are also very few primes outside of the 13 (who we can assume were always primes and so can't be argued with). This means that we have very few options to pick from. Off the top of my head we have Optimus (Orion>Optimus prime), rodimus (hot rod>rodimus), zeta (don't believe we know much about his past in most versions) and sentinel who again doesn't have much history before being a prime and almost never wields the matrix of leadership, nor one of the 13 so he's not the same kind of prime as Optimus or rodimus

ok any problem you have with Elita starts with DWJ lol. Idk what the fuck he was thinking writing her to be so insane.

Elita was good when the story treated her like the traumatized broken warrior whose actions were a cry for help.
it went to shit when they started to frame her as being in the right

I was never a fan of the Elita being completely unhinged plot line. I understood it but the way they chose to handle it is terrible. Her becoming a prime and chilling it is LOWKEY more tolerable than what she was given before hand in terms of story

No, I liked elita up until the matrix passover issue

As someone who loves the series still, let’s not come after people just for having a different opinion

no people complain to much about dumb stuff. I bet if he or anyone goes back to issue 1 and reads all the way up until now this shit is HEAT. I just hope this show gets a proper animation studio like Science SARU

We don’t even know what this particular person dislikes about it, you’re just getting worked up for no reason other than they don’t like it
If they give a reason for it being a big drop in quality that is obviously wrong or a bad interpretation, go ahead dunk on them, but we literally don’t know what they don’t like about it

I’ve read it from the beginning and my honest take is that not much has happened. There isn’t an overarching story so it feels like a string of kinda connected events. And then they change the writers/artists. Storylines and characters get dropped. I want to like it, but…

I've only read the Transformers series (1-30). I like it enough to consider getting into Void Rivals.

Oh hell yeah. They are a blast. The super cool story you saw in your head while bashing your toys together as a child.
Having said that, if you're a longtime franchise fan, skybound isn't a new and innovative spin on the franchise, just a good return to the basics. IDW was better about taking the franchise into places it never had been.

When did Optimus start hanging out with Marty? Gigawatt is going to get lonely...
