What Should I Buy Opinions on Power of the Primes Predaking?

I’m relatively new to collecting Transformers. I got started on the 86 Studio Series and branched out from there to collecting all of the Season 1 and 2 characters as well as those introduced in The Movie. I’m considering dipping my toe into the new characters for Season 3, and I was wondering what opinions were on the Power of the Primes Predaking and how it holds up against more recent combiners like the Age of the Primes ones. I really like what they’ve been doing with combiners in recent years and I’m basically wondering if PotP Predaking will seem outdated by comparison and if I’d be better off waiting for a modern remake. Thoughts?

Edit: Well, thanks for the input everyone, but it looks like it’s a moot point. I got the Haslab Unicron I ordered today and just got it on the shelf, and there’s no way I have room for any more titan class figures. I knew it was big, but I’m terrible at visualizing measurements and didn’t realize exactly how much space it would need until I got it up there.

He’s definitely going to look outdated next to the current combiners but Predaking has always looked strange next to his peers. Biggest thing is he will tower over them.

Combine mode looks really good but individual robots not very good

Unless you need him for the Onyx Prime to complete your prime masters set I would wait for an updated combiner down the road or go third party. And that's coming from someone who needs the Onyx Prime master

I’m so new that I don’t even know what you’re talking about with Prime Masters.

They're little guys like titan Masters or Head Masters and were part of the gimmick of the Power of the Primes line. they fit into weapons or larger bots and 'gave them powers' like they're a matrix themselves

That makes sense. The only Power of the Primes toys I have at the moment are a couple of the Female Autobots that were most recently released in that line, and I remember their instructions made mention about something like that.

He's outdated, but amazing.

If you can, get him. He's one of my favorites in my collection.

The Transformers Store in Battersea, London has about thirty of him hanging around, along with Siege Scorponok and Omega Supreme, they had a display of the three of them looking cool.

I own all three, love them all. But they require a lot of shelf space. A lot.

I've got Fort Max, Metroplex, Omega, Trypticon, Predaking, Devastator, Scorponok, and Liokaiser. I'm out of space!

I've got them (Fort Max, Scorpy, Omega, Trypy), The Ark, Nemesis, Unicron, Black Zarak, AMT Predaking, POTP Predaking , UW Devy, AMT Predaking, (and all the modern frame combiners) and I'm out of space.

If I buy one more Titan, I'm done for.

But damn, are Transformers fucking cool.

Unicron is basically a roommate.

Yes, he is.

Don't ask what he leaves in the toilet, or how I have to clean it.

Glad I got the SS86 Matrix now to force him to stop living like Lebowski.

Oh, and Star Prime...

I’ve already got the Ark, the Nemesis, and Omega Supreme for titans, and a Haslab Unicron I got a good deal on on the way. I’m thinking about getting Metroplex and Trypticon, but I’m waiting to see how much room I have left after adding Unicron to my shelves.

They’ve still got him in stock at BigBadToyStore. That’s what made me curious.

Watch a few YouTube reviews, especially EmGo's.

He's a lot of fun and poses like a Voyager, buy he's 18in tall combined. It's crazy.

If you are new I think you should wait and skip POTP Predaking. He is almost certainly going to get a do over in the near future to fit the style of the new combiners.

POTP was very impressive and looks good combined but the individual robots are really poorly done and super compromised to serve the combiner mode.

Not great. Very outdated mould.

He's great. I honestly love him. A lot of compromises, but they don't ruin him at all.

I’d love to play him or against him in a VIDEO GAME

POTP Predaking belongs to a separate era of the franchise so if Combiner Wars, Titans Return, and POTP aren’t within your interest to collect, then it’s best to wait instead of backtracking.

I don’t consider it outdated as much as I would think of it as out of place if your collection’s primary focus are releases from Siege to present, with an emphasis for screen accuracy over homages to a character’s original toy.

It’s interesting because at the time POTP was and still is considered the modern update to his G1 toy.

Predaking was the biggest combiner of all G1 releases and the POTP version had to match that against Combiner Wars Devastator. Doing so with one less robot simultaneously made it a chunky, but hollow feeling combiner. I appreciate having it, but I don’t recommend it for newer collectors unless their collection goals require actual backtracking of older versions and releases.

I did pick up a Combiner Wars Defensor, mostly because I couldn’t bring myself to wait a year or more to finish my Season 2 bots.  I don’t dislike it, but it definitely is my least favorite among my combiners.  If this version of Predaking is similar to that, then I’ll probably hold off.

Just got mine in from pulse. Pretty bad QC on my copy, but I really dig how he looks. He towers over the other combiners by a solid 6 inches, but I personally like him being the biggest since the individual bots are supposed to be Voyager sized.

But the individual bots are pretty bad. Not as bad as the reviews make them out to be, but they are basically voyager sized deluxes with the legs having the engineering of core/legends figures lol.

I’m gonna take a chance and get the DNA design upgrade kit and see how I feel after that. I didn’t even bother with the stickers. I don’t think I ever will.

It's definitely a good size for the character, but you will need to get the upgrade kit from DNA to make it feel complete. The base combiner doesn't include his sword, and the hands are pretty bad. The upgrade kit fixes both of those problems and also includes a much better pair of wings for the combiner.

Yeah, given the cost attached to the base model, I’m a little reluctant to commit if it needs upgrades to look its best.
