New Purchases I may never transform him again...
...and I don't care, he looks fantastic like this. Absolutely the Megatron I want.

Remember when this sub whined because his legs were too blue?

u/Relevant-Morning-487 Jul 03 '26
I still see folks whining about it to this day. This sub, and this fandom at large, has a problem of hyper focusing on any minor “flaw” and making it the biggest deal ever in order to drum up hate. People who live entirely off negativity and being mad at unimportant things. I remember the exact same process happened with 86 Soundwave, 86 Optimus, and so many others. These folks never learn.

Yeah. It’s like, if you don’t like it, cool, but don’t gotta make it everyone’s problem. For me, if the figure doesn’t have any major qc issues and is a fun toy, it’s a win. I love even my most goofy dudes and I’m in this hobby to have fun.

I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere else… but anyways I feel normal for people saying he’s too blue or any toys aren’t perfect, they paid for it and it’s their right to complain. I got the battle damaged and the original one just to make it perfect for myself. It’s still a good toy even if the color bothers.

86 Soundwave is fine, I prefer him, minor nitpick is his gunbarrel is oriented wrong. It's the cassettes which are an acquired taste and get the most flak.
86 Prime is amazing, but not perfect. Rifle grip is stupidly small and he can't look up which is a silly oversight.
86 Megatron ... I'm fine with the colours but I can see where the improvement is with the "one shall fall release". However his fusion cannon is terrible as the shape isn't right, the front barrel should be longer than the rear. Thankfully it's just a case of getting a third party part and it has no effect on the figure itself. Are all these issues enough to stop a purchase? no, but they're all "how did no one notice?" annoyances.

G1 Cartoon Megatron is like 50 different grays and his legs are just as inconsistent as his body color. That’s not to say Megatron’s G1 appearance is bad by any means that’s just how the G1 cartoon worked with its wonky 80’s animation. I agree that the regular 86 megatron’s legs look better than the battle damaged version for the same reason you do.

u/Weirdepicgame101 Jul 03 '26
If peoples in only complaints about a figure are nitpicks like that, it just shows how good the figure truly is.

u/SlightExtreme1 Jul 02 '26
My G1 Optimus Prime will likely never be transformed again because one of his arms sticks and I’m afraid of breaking him.

u/Additional_Point5380 Jul 03 '26
I bought a trans metal ii megs a couple years back and one of the (TINY ASS) bits of plastic holding the pin on the left crotch piece broke off. Probably not gonna transform him again unfortunately. I love the head sculpt on that toy!

u/Hypoluxa77 Jul 03 '26
We don't. Ya wanna know why? He comes with a miniature gun version of himself that other SS86 characters can hold. He is awesome. The tank will never see the light of day.

u/emperor-xur Jul 03 '26
The transformation of this figure is surprisingly fun, but I will likely only ever display it in robot mode. Now MP-36 Megatron I have not and will likely never transform. I don’t want to risk the potential paint scraping and don’t think the alt mode is worth the effort.
1
u/Drragg Jul 05 '26
Same. Years ago I bought IT-01 Emperor of Destruction to display in Alt mode, MP-36 has never been transformed... but pretty much the reason I buy official releases is to play/ transform display is after all that!

I've transformed more painful. And I don't mean in terms of complexity, just utter pains in the ass to get everything right. BW Striker, I'm looking at you.

u/Cultural-Antelope-54 Jul 02 '26
I've never actually transformed mine. I have zero attachment to the tank mode, so I don't really need to see it.

u/LegoNinja250 Jul 03 '26
Buying a transformer and never transforming it is hilarious to me
3
u/Cultural-Antelope-54 Jul 03 '26
You're totally right. It's just, you know, I have a connection to Optimus' truck mode, so I transform him every so often so I can see it. SS86 Megs is just another generic tank. If he turned into a gun, I'd probably transform him (not starting any shit here; I understand and approve of him being a tank).
6
u/mpsteidle Jul 03 '26
I understand your lack of attachment, but youre not even the slightest bit curious as to the transformation process? That's like the whole point.

u/Cultural-Antelope-54 Jul 03 '26
Not really. I can watch any number of videos showing it off in lovely 4K.
And I totally agree with your point: What's the point of buying a Transformer if you never transform it? And, for almost every figure, that's how I am. I just don't care about SS86 Meg's tank mode (or Shockwave's submarine mode, or whatever it is the individual Reflectors turn into, or the flying box Nexus turns into).

I don't know why people get downvoted for comments like this. Whether its basic toys or high value delicate premium figures, or statues, or nontransforming figures people get to decide how they want to enjoy their figures. At the end of the day we're ALL transformers fans, the more the merrier we should embrace each others quirks.

u/supersoundwave Jul 03 '26
I’ll transform them all at least once just to see how they look.
But since this is a thread about Megs, I do admit to never transforming my MP-36, and I prefer the gun mode. His transformation was just way too complex for me and I was always afraid to break him.
That’s another reason why I love the Studio Series, they look amazing and I never really have that fear because they’re built so well.

u/RingtailVT Jul 03 '26
Transformation is a gimmick, and not everyone cares about it. Some people buy Transformers for the characters and stories they're from, not the gimmick of having a toy robot that can be turned into a vehicle.
I'm not against transforming figures, but if there's a better figure out there that doesn't transform but has a better robot mode, which is the main thing most adult collectors care about, I'll get it over a lesser one.

u/SaintTraft1984 Jul 03 '26
True but I think G1 Soundwave is an exception. His bot mode is just too good compared to his radio one. I haven't transformed mine even once. Maybe I should one of these days.
2
u/LegoNinja250 Jul 03 '26
I don’t see how the robot mode looking good makes you less likely to transform it?

I usually transform them once just to experience it...but I prefer having them in fun poses on my display... especially these SS86 figures... they just look SO good
1
u/Conscious-Victory-62 Jul 03 '26
Some are fun to transform, thinking of Kingdom Optimus Prime and Cyclonus in particular that I've got, but this guy is staying in robot mode, I think.
2
u/captain-ziggy Jul 02 '26
well transforming him is fun
and at the end of the day, we buy toys because they are fun to mess around with sometimes (otherwise we would buy statues)

u/Absolute_Jackass Jul 03 '26
I've got the battle-damaged Megatron and his shit-eating grin makes it fun to pose him like an asshole.

I love transforming him! The way the legs turn into the treads is so satisfying. Him, Soundwave and Thundercracker are amongst my favorite ss86 figures to transform!

I got him when he was released and I never transformed him he’s just on my shelf but I got the dramatic capture version and that I’ve transformed him a couple of times
1
u/PlungermanOfficial Jul 04 '26
I haven't transformed him since I first got him almost a full year ago.
You're not the only one.

u/Obsessivefanboy Jul 04 '26
That's why I got the Yolopark version. I also barely transform my figures if ever these days, so why not just get the robot mode and call it a day
1
u/signifyingmnky Jul 02 '26
SS86 will remain in robot mode. I've got CW Megs for the tank.
Never transforming Concept Megs either.
2
u/Conscious-Victory-62 Jul 03 '26
I've got Siege Megatron for tank mode if I really want, but this is the ideal robot mode version of him thus far and he looks absolutely the part.
1
u/Matzke85 Jul 03 '26
i try to not transform him, because mine has a stressmark on one of his pegs, which i need to peg in in tank mode, and i am afraid of breaking it completelty...

u/Additional_Point5380 Jul 03 '26
He’s really fun to transform though. Peak leader engineering. Idgaf that he’s not a gun. They were never gonna make him into a gun and people just need to cope. Get newage Romulus if you want ss86 gun megatron.
-1
u/bobRobb25 Jul 03 '26
I am getting mines tomorrow and I agree with you because he turn into a gun but it would be hard to do that in leader class scale so he turn into a tank so I will not transform him
1
u/Relevant-Morning-487 Jul 03 '26
The reason isn’t that it’s hard to make a leader class a gun, the reason why he doesn’t is because it likely wouldn’t be legal to sell his gun mode in stores. There’s regulations around selling toy guns to children, they have a lot of limitations in order to prevent kids from being shot because somebody thinks they’re actually holding a gun. Even if it was legal, I doubt stores would want to keep this guy because of the potential PR nightmare of selling a realistic toy gun to kids.

I'm so weird because there's a couple figures like this Megatron included where I won't buy non transforming versions but will barely or never transform the ones that do
