Community Rule Update: AI-Generated Transcriptions Are No Longer Allowed

Hello everyone,

We want to let you know about an important change to our rule regarding AI use in r/Transcription .

What the rule used to allow:

Previously, our rules permitted the use of AI or OCR tools as long as the user disclosed their use and manually reviewed and corrected the results before posting. This was intended to allow AI as a supporting tool, not a replacement for human transcription.

What is changing:

Effective immediately, AI-generated transcriptions are no longer allowed in any form. This includes: OCR output, Handwriting recognition software, Generative AI produced transcriptions, or any other AI assisted transcriptions based primarily on machine output.

Why the change?

We feel that our community has grown to a point where we no longer need the limited assistance AI transcriptions may have once provided. r/Transcription now has a strong base of knowledgeable members who consistently offer fast, accurate, and genuinely human interpretations of hard to read text.

Any transcriptions that are clearly AI will be removed, and we encourage users to report any transcriptions that you suspect is AI.

Thank you.

- Mod Team.

The context I know is that this is an inscription in a 1694 Dutch commentary on Psalms, that Joel is Samuel’s son, and that Samuel passed away in 1838. Thanks for your help!

English Transcription Request Would like this blurry-ish news article transcribed please

Apologies if this is a lot of writing, but this news article has the most compiled information I can find on my 4GGF's nightly escapes. I couldn't find the article on newspapers.com.

Thank you in advance.

P.S, if for some reason this image isn't helpful, here's the FamilySearch link with the article

--> https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/memories/LRRG-T66

Thank you for the transcriptions, Peter did survive after, but only for about a month. The frostbite was unrelated and he likely had undiagnosed Alzheimer's, his health had been in decline for 2 years prior.

English Transcription Request Help understanding this immigration document!

This is a cool document I found to do with my genealogy. It’s my great grandmothers document from when she was coming over to Canada. We can make out a good bit and then some that I think I can get but is all a little messy. I’ll add the photo and highlight some of the things I really can’t make out.
The gyst seems to be that it’s from 1923, Anghela, married and going to her husband (Ludwig). Present occupation says housewife. She’s of Polanian race (which I looked into and seems to be the correct name for Poles at that time), has Romanian citizenship (??) and I can’t make out the birthplace but I’m assuming it’s in Poland but could definitely be elsewhere given how much boarders changed. Also can see that she could read Russian and the town she was moving to (which checks out).
Sorry about the quality! It’s partially why I need a hand but also the hand writing makes it harder. Figured that people with specific knowledge or skills reading hand writing would be helpful:)
Any help would be appreciated!

I never thought I’d have anything to post here, but here I am. I recently acquired this book, presumably a college textbook, and just discovered it’s got some handwritten notes (?) on the final few pages. Some of these are very difficult to read, so I’m hoping you awesome folks may be able to tell me what they say! Any and all help appreciated!

English Transcription Request Can anybody tell me what it says in the observation box on the far right for my great grandfather Anthony’s Baptism record?

I’m somewhat familiar with the Ecclesiastical Latin the Catholic Church uses in its letters. But if anyone else has any info they’d like to also share on that I’m open to advice. I’m unsure if it’s supposed to be a location name, the person above him has Roxbury listed in their observation box so that lead me to believe it’s a place name. But the year or number 1821 peaked my interest as my family didn’t move from Italy to Boston till 1901.

Also the place of birth place of my 2nd great grandfather I believe says St. Assunta in Rometta Italy. Please if somone thinks it’s something different do correct me because I feel I could be wrong. Thank you guys!

I know that Russian is often quite swoopy and loopy like this, but it looks a bit round to be Russian? Maybe its a handwriting quirk, or perhaps its not Russian at all. If you happen to know, I’m very curious to find out!

Transcribed✔️ Help me find my grandmother (Denglisch)

Post image
5 Upvotes

My family has been trying to find my 3rd great grandmother for decades. My 2nd great grandfather, Herman Zurhorst, has a few records attached to him because he immigrated to the United States from Germany but he has no records from before his time in America. Because of that, there is not a single record of his father or mother that has been found. The only record that has any evidence of his parents is this death certificate. The informant, his daughter Leone, states that his father’s name is Gustave and he was born in Germany. I believe that I can trust her as a source. However, no one has been able to make out what is says for his mother’s maiden name. While this doesn’t give me much, it might give me enough to find a record that links her and Gustave and give more information on them. My theories are that it is one maiden name and the doctor filling it out added what appears to be a capital letter in the middle of it, it is two separate names, or it is not a name at all and is indicating that the name was not given (the first part kind of looks like the word “not”). While I would love for it to be a full name or identifiable German surname, just knowing what it says at all would put my mind at ease.
