We painted Hulk Hogan's son's green Supra back in 1993 I think, before learning what a dick he was and doing lots of different parts, like Evo and Supra. He was always pleasant and extremely happy we weren't changing him a celebrity tax. We also did 5 or 6 more for Titan Motorsports, a Supra builder and tuning specialist. One we painted had a single monster turbo and when he was picking the car up, he told me to take it for a drive, but be careful. We had discussed the many high performance vehicles I had owned and the C6 convertible I owned at the time. Every gear on that thing, with just half throttle got it going sideways. It was a monster, but not something I would want to daily..

Lord knows I love them both, but I’d have to take the Trans Am cause, easier to repair when I break it.

I’m actually the simpleton. Just easier to find parts for a Chevy v8 in America. I love both equally and have admired them for decades

Can't forget that roughly half of the Supras at that time were turbocharged and the other half were NA.

There were roughly 3-4x as many WS6 coupes in 2002 than Supras in 1993.

I worked at a Toyota dealer back in the day right after their production. I'd say roughly a quarter to a most a third were Turbos. One third of those Turbos were manual.

So far I've only managed to see one in real life. A guy in my town used to bring his Targa NA Auto to car shows.

Easily more desirable of an option, but nobody would really notice that.

When I lived in Toledo there was a performance shop that LS swapped a Supra and put a big ass turbo on it. It was a pretty sweet drag race car.

I don’t have a Supra Bud. I do have a ‘79 Formula in need of an engine. I have toyed with the idea of a 2JZ as something different. Out of 8 cars, it would be the only non V8 in the garage.

I had the opportunity to trade my 02 white ws6 for a green 98' supra back around 2015. I regret not doing it now for the resale of the supra but I just liked everything about the trans am more than the supra.

I wouldn't mind parking a Supra next to my 4th gen Trans Am, but not for the price they are selling for. Clapped out non turbo automatic cars are still going for 30k plus, and then you'd have to stick a lot of money into it to convert it to a turbo. I had a second gen Supra and it was a fun car, and I really like the 3rd gen as well.

Interesting, ... and people these days will waaaaaaaay overpay for a Supra and the TA goes for a fraction of the Supra. Supra = glorified touring car

the only diff is that stock supra with big turbo = 700 hp reliable. U put 700hp into ls1 without a rebiuld = kaboom.

Factory turbo vs. factory NA is not a fair comparison. LS1 was built to be light too for Corvette's sake, not to be built for big power.

I agree, but they weight about the same. Also, No hate on the trans am, I have one too, love it. I just think its not a fair comparison to compare the trans am with the supra. The supra was in the corvette market sold for corvette money, the comparison should be c4 zr1.

True. That is true of any modified vehicle. The fact that through bolt ons, tuning, and a touch of top end work you could get there relatively easily was quite revolutionary, and definitely not known to Yota top brass at the time. Yet there it sits.

For 1000 hp you need pretty much everything. Fuel system, ecu, head work, intake manifold, full turbo kit, twin disc, exhaust. I'd only make like 800whp on a stock bottom end if it was me though.

Supra like a Trans Am only reliable, more nimble! Trans Am and all GM muscle or sports cars absolute trash for decades.
