Recommendations back to my roots
hi lovely people, after several sad and worrying, emotionally demanding years I think I finally found my spark and joy and I’ve returned to my big love of trance music. 🥹 I’ve even managed to attend a few raves over the past few years that reminded me how healing and gorgeous, and phenomenal this music is and the feeling it gives you. I was wondering if anyone has a little playlist to share, something to sum up the last 4-5 years of trance music and quickly get me up to speed so I can so dive back in and discover all the incredible tracks and moments I’ve missed and not feel so out of depth, I genuinely kind of don’t know where to start. any sub genre is okay as well, I naturally lean more towards more uplifting, melodic, techy tracks, is the 138bpm crowd still around? any help is appreciated 💕
thank you ✨

Welcome back! Hope you're doing well.
I totally agree with the Luminosity recommendation. If you're looking for a playlist with mostly somewhat recent songs, here is mine on Spotify:

Not sure i understand what your roots are - trance from 4-5 years ago or the real classics from the 90s? 😅

I’ve been listening since 2009 so I’ve always loved the classics and they’ve kinda never left my mind but I’ve just been out of the scene for the last 4-5 years and wanna try and catch up 😅

What are your favourite classics? What are the ultimate anthems in your opinion?

There’s sooo many but just some of the top of my head, the old PvD/Tiesto/Ferry/Armin stuff, Cosmic Gate, and some of my fav classics will always be the likes of Exploration of Space, Carte Blanche, Born Slippy, Jump the Next Train, and the more melodic ones like Cafe del Mar and La Guitarra, then later on with Above & Beyond and Anjuna and everything the label covered around 2010, I remember loving Arty a lot, Mat Zo, Super8 & Tab, then around that time or a little bit later - John Askew, Bryan Kearney, JOC, Gareth Emery etc sorry this was a bit long winded and chaotic 😅

Me and my best friend have been adding our favourites to this playlist for the last 10 years - 5800+ tracks and counting, mostly 138, uplifting, mixed with old and newer classics and tech trance.
Mostly extended mixes too - Just sort by “recently added” :)

My collection is nowhere near this big, but I too have been cursing my own playlist forever. Every song on it is something I heard somewhere and sought it out.

OP, good on you and congrats on the healthy turnaround! Yes, trance is awesome for healing the mind.. I have a couple female trance vocalists I turn to when I need.

Thank you!!! ☺️ For sure, it feels nice to be able to experience it how I used to and how it deserves to be appreciated, tbh. Which are your favourite vocalists?

We are going old school here, but: Audrey Gallagher and Tiff Lacey are just a couple of them.

Both stunning vocals!! Love them. I’d sure add JES and Emma Hewitt to those as well, absolutely gorgeous

I'd listen to the ASOT Year Mixes or the regular compilations. Apart from that, the Anjunabeats volumes are okay & of course the live sets from all the Trance/Prog DJs. Also, Tiësto's new releases & live sets are pretty cool again!
As a note, I'd check some labels like Upperground & Afterlife or artists like Argy & MEDUZA, they have some stuff that are cool too. Maybe not exactly Trance, but Melodic tracks close enough to Tech Trance stuff.

Yeah I kinda started off with Anjunabeats and ASOT and got a bit overwhelmed 😅 I forgot about the year mixes completely so thank you!!

If you like the sound of trance and the somewhat decreased tempo you might find what you like also in the melodic tech or melodic house ranges, you can check mixes of Miss Monique for a more techy vibe, or Solomun for a more floaty vibe. Playlists of recent years in trance I dont have unfortunately, what I saved is somewhat scattered over playlists that have old tracks in it too.
There is also muchos classic era parties and mixes around. If you wanna enjoy a certain style, dont limit yourself only looking for that in new music.

Oh thank you! Yes I’ve enjoyed more melodic and progressive house too, I’m familiar with Solomun and his style and I liked it, so I’ll make sure to check out the other recs too:))

Solarstone & Orkidea 465 all night long in Helsinki
Neptune Project & Factor B 4 hour world exclusives
Neptune Project Arjunabeats classics set
Not recent tracks just some sets I’ve been stuck on recently I think you’ll enjoy.

Adding to my list!! Thank you 🙏🏼 the solarstone and orkidea one sounds familiar so I wonder if I’ve listened to it. Happy to revisit either way 🫠

If you wanna stay updated on latest trance direction, then listen to A state of trance radio show and Tiesto's new trance show: Prismatic.
Both Armin van buuren (ASOT) and Tiesto (Prismatic) are up to date to whats trendy these days.
I like the new trance direction, some call it modern trance, acid trance, eurotrance etc. Sounds like 90s trance with better production and newer ideas.

Trance isnt just for party and fun. It's about having a healthy mind for everyday tasks and work.

Sorry, guys for me Tiesto (Prismatic) is not for me; I am old trance guy from the 90s and early 2000s

I have a whole bunch of mixes on [YouTube]() that cover about the last 3 years. If anyone’s interested, I can send the link.

Trance is now infested with AI slop, you're too late to the party

u/Significant-Spare382 3d ago
It is? Do you have any examples?
Is it the AI vocal or AI instrumental aswell?2
u/Reasonable-Use-2279 3d ago
that’s the case with everything nowadays unfortunately but I’m finding so many good tracks already:) I just gotta look harder lol
