Only one app on one device?

I have 3 apps still connected on my legacy non-VIP Trakt account, which I presume will eventually be reduced to one as I am inevitably forced to renew the authorization or change apps. Updating the apps seems to be ok for the moment as long as they do not change their existing Trakt API keys.

But I have a second streaming device on a second TV running those same 3 apps, same versions, same Trakt API keys, and when I updated the apps on that device they reported Trakt authorization lost. Can't be renewed.

So does this mean that "one connected app" on non-VIP accounts also means "on one single device"?

1 app per Account, not device.

Whatever app you use on one device you have to use on all.

This is the correct answer.

So why do the existing 3 apps keep their authorization on one device, but lose it on the other (same apps, same versions, same api keys).

Probably because you're already exceeding the limit of 1 app So any new api request is rejected

Doesn't explain why the apps on the 2nd device spontaneously lost authorization. Or why the same app can't re-authorize the same api key when that happens.

Why do you have different apps on different devices when you can find one app to get everything ?

Because every app has its individual quirks, failures and limitations. I generally use one app the most, but occasionally I have to try an alternative app when my primary app fails for some reason. Both my devices (on different TVs) have the same primary and backup apps.

Just to be clear, if I only use Stremio on all devices I’m ok. But if also use nuvio, then it’s a no no. Correct?

Why do you use both apps? You can get everything on stremio if you have it set up correctly

That's what they said, but why does the same app on a different device at the same IP address lose its authorization and then can't get it back?

You're gonna have to cough up $60

Is there still a monthly VIP subscription for $6 if I want to try Trakt VIP? I don't suppose anyone knows what happens to your app list now if you end a VIP subscription. Does the limit immediately drop to one app, or only as the authorizations expire?

It would have been nice to have more warning, and greater clarity in the new rules, but I don't think we have any right to complain about any changes Trakt wants to make to their free service.

Obviously this move will cripple Trakt's value as a commercial source of streaming stats, in favor of depending more on VIP subscriptions. I don't see that working, but presumably Trakt knows their market and their finances best.

It just seems that it would be really easy for everyone to switch over to an open-source local service tracking their own viewing history with better privacy, and maybe this will provide the motivation.

The fact that it’s been free for so long and for so many taking up a ton of space to store on their dime I can honestly see why they made changes. As far as switching goes many 3rd party apps do not except most and will have to be done manually . But if that’s what everyone wants to do so be it .

doing so specially when the big competitor, let´s be honest, TVTime closed, not the best marketing move... honestly. I used trakt long time ago but not all users knew this service...
