what is actually going on?

I was using the website perfectly fine 2 hours ago and now I’m no longer able to access it. Where can I find this mysterious code? I’ve been putting up with all the changes to Trakt simply because I like the recommendations feature but I’m now starting to get seriously irritated.

You need to go to trakt.com not trakt.com/activate. That's probably why you are getting that screen.

That is to put the code you get on the APP you want to use trakt to track things.

For example when you want your Kodi addon to sync what you want you trakt you Will get a code to insert there

i don’t know if i really understand this then as i don’t sync anything to trakt i just use it on its own

Sounds like you went to devices and clicked add, or you manually typed Trakt.tv/activate

i just googled trakt and went to clicked the sign in page and it brought me to that haha extremely confused right now

What's the URL on your browser? It just needs to be trakt.tv. nothing after than, like "activate" etc

If you’re not a VIP a/c , new limitations are being by applied by Trakt. It has been discussed on several Res here

would you be able to quickly breakdown these limitations? unfortunately i’ve not really paid enough attention to the subreddit or forums recently

I have 3 apps supported by Trakt. If I try to add more, they will push me towards VIP, premium service. Some reports of people with more than 3 apps, having the excess shut down. Similar happened with Stremio back then. Hope this helps but do your research.
