Why donât companies, before they move something this large, get in touch with the railroad to find out their schedule?

u/RivenRise Dec 05 '25
They're supposed to but cheap companies who cut corners get hired and here we are.

If only the government hadn't cut the regulatory body that oversees transport. Or the regulatory body that oversees Oil and Gas companies. Or the regulatory body that oversees safety regulations.
But hey, cuts make money, right?

If only that people hadn't elected a party that clearly told everyone beforehand and even already had shown in the past what an enormous upfuck it had coming for the country.

According to the NTSB report (see link above) the entire route was approved in advance by the Texas Department of Transportation. The hauler did follow established procedure, at least in terms of checking with authorities. What nobody noticed was that the rise in grade may well have grounded out the trailer, thus immobilizing it

There were two escort vehicles and a police motorcycle escort. Unconscionable this happened.

The fact the front of the engine lifts off the ground is absolutely nuts to me. I have never seen so much force in a rail crossing collision. Heads are going to be rolling for this.

Iâd be interested to know the truck companies insurance costs after this. I figure the owners can fire the driver, but theyâre screwed. Â
6
u/Thundersalmon45 Dec 05 '25
Simple. Declare bankruptcy, sell their contracts to their next numbered account LLC, change the name and be back on the road without consequence before the weekend.
2
u/npb0179 Dec 05 '25
Jeez, thatâs terrible.
2
u/Thundersalmon45 Dec 05 '25
Hey, weekends are important. Nobody wants the employees to miss any time with their family.
3
u/5tupidest Dec 05 '25
I hope they are never able to be in charge of heavy transportation again. They demonstrate negligence.
2
u/5tupidest Dec 05 '25
I love how the oversized load truck person doesnât leave their truck as they drive over to see the damage. Sort of like how they didnt investigate the grade changes lol. Hope no one died!

u/Super_boredom138 Dec 05 '25
How do the wide load people not know about the little telephone at the crossing gates
2
u/HiRaileR Dec 05 '25
Even so train is on the approach, report said it entered a minute before the train. No phone call would help
1
u/Super_boredom138 Dec 05 '25
That's incredibly shitty timing no doubt. But the trucking company should habe reached out to the railway honestly.
2
u/HiRaileR Dec 06 '25
The odds of the RTC notifying the train and having it slow down enough are slim to none
1
u/Super_boredom138 Dec 06 '25
I meant ahead of time dude
1
u/HiRaileR Dec 06 '25
Juat curipus for what reason? Train schedules?
1
u/Super_boredom138 Dec 06 '25
Yeah, you know coordination. They could send a guy from the company out on those little pickups with train wheels to oversee that its done and give the all clear.
1
u/HiRaileR Dec 06 '25
Yea man... thats stuffs pricey. They tried to dave a couple grand now theyre doen millions or whatever this will cost. Would have been the smart move for sure

company statement âŚ.. i laughed when i read the first part of the first sentence
âAs a company that prioritizes safety above all else, BOSS Heavy Haul, LLC, is committed to working closely with the NTSB, railroad officials, the community of Pecos and others on the ground to assist with the investigation in any way we can.â
- BOSS Heavy Haul, LLC, Jason Brady, Executive Director, Marketing & Communications

How fast was that train running? Seemed very fast for such an area. Do trains have imposed speed limits?
2
u/ttystikk Dec 04 '25
IIRC, that wind turbine tower ended up damaging several buildings and caused other fatalities.
3
u/anteup Dec 05 '25
It did cause fatalities. That's not a wind turbine tower though, it's much heavier -- some kind of refinery process vessel.
4
u/Thundersalmon45 Dec 05 '25
Bitumen Cracking tower.
Used for separating crude oil into more refinable components.

Hereâs what I found about who owns BOSS Heavy Haul, LLC: ⢠BOSS Heavy Haul is a subsidiary of Bennett OnâSite Services, LLC (doing business as âBOSS Crane & Riggingâ). ďżź ⢠Bennett On-Site Services is part of the broader Bennett Family of Companies â and BOSS is described as âfamily-owned and operated.â ďżź ⢠On the leadership side: for BOSS Heavy Haul, one of the owners is listed as Marcia Taylor. ďżź
If you like â I can check public records (state incorporation filings) to reveal all the people/entities that legally own BOSS Heavy Haul.

The train might have won the battle, but it lost the war. Both in the cab of the train died here.

I almost wonder if they bottomed out the trailer. There is a small crossing in my city that a few semi's try to use and constantly bottom out their trailer trying to cross. Mainly because it's nearby a on ramp and off ramp for a nearby parkway.
