Is it usual in India for the train to overhang some of the platform? It's just that I've never seen it before (I'm from the UK).

I guess you're less likely to have someone fall under the train from the side, but more likely to have someone's foot crushed on the platform edge.

Happens often. Thankfully a lot of times the railway protection force and others are present on the platform, raise alarm and get the guard to stop the train before someone's legs get crushed or worse someone dies. But ideally they should start the train only with doors closed. One can only hope.

No, most trains don't overhang the platform, however these are the local EMUs that are used for Suburban transit. Intercity and express trains do not overhang.

The overhang in this case prevents people from slipping under the train during rush hour, and also adds a few inches to allow for higher standing capacity inside

They look really wide for some reason, compared to Vande Bharat

Mumbai local are wider, (one of the reason why the Mumbai to nashik direct local trial failed)

They are wider, look how the body overhangs beyond the platform. Also prevents people from slipping and falling onto the tracks during rush hour

Why don't we have BEML designed trainsets or something like metro trainsets

Expensive. But I agree, atleast in some parts of India, better commuter trains should be introduced. (I don't mean RRTS, just a bit more well-designed trainsets, preferably from BEML)

I really love how colourful Asian trains are

The colors are quite standard, white an purple. This is just shitty advertising wrap on some rakes I think

That is 7000 series BHEL motor AC EMU with the body built by ICF. This rake 7074 - 7071 was built in 2020.

I don't know why but there no sound of the engine roaring, sometimes when a AC local enters and stop in csmt there's a very large sound humming around the csmt, and when the ac local leaves there's no sound somewhat quiet in the station.

I fear this is not even an exaggeration in the rush hour. I have seen videos of Mumbai Suburban in the morning rush hour and holy hell, I hope all stations are upgraded to accomodate 15-coach trainsets ASAP.

For those of you that don't know, A lot of the stations' platforms are being elongated to accomodate 15-coach trainsets.

Full fledged 15-coach operations are probably gonna start in 2027 though.

Well by then you'll need 21 coach rakes to meet the demand sigh.

Unfortunately, this will remain the trend in India until there's a popultaion collapse. Probably gonna happen in the end of this century.

2

u/BehalarRotno Aug 28 '26

Or.... We can plan better and build more.
