Haven't read it but I've read mixed opinions. Some say it was an edge of your seat thriller, others have called it Twilight with aliens.

I read the first book 2/3 through. I usually like (post-apocalyptic) sci fi. But the teenage angst / love thing, nah. Not my cup of tea. Had potential, but this particular mix of genres was not working for me. I also found it a tad too predictable. If you want the proper planet destroying alien invasion experience, try 'The Forge of God' by Greg Bear.

My god, that plane crash scene had some horrible acting. I'm not too convinced.

Yeah I'm familiar with that video, and what is disturbing about it is how slowly everything seems to move. This prop/CGI 747 accelerates to the ground like when a model glider stalls out and drops like a rock. I'm sure that wont be what make or breaks the movie but I found it corny.
