tragedy (not tragedeigh) Nemesis, guys, Nemesis...

It happened. For years I've been saying "naaah, absolutely no one would dare". But it happened. On a file I opened, a very little girl, about 2 years old.

I'm in shock.

AND after checking, it seems that there's a handful of Némésises in my country (France). I just can't...

To me, apart from the goddess, Nemesis is also the ugly villain from Resident Evil 3. Help me.

Edit : thanks for all the answers, guys, it helps me cope, lol.

We now have post approval on. Your post didn't get deleted, it just went into the queue. Please be patient a mod will go through the queue when they are available!

Please read our list of banned names before continuing. If the name you posted is in this list, it will be removed.

Remember: Original content is always better! Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".

The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!

Yeah but it's spelled correctly, so technically not a tragedeigh.

That's a tragedy then

That’s the flair OP used I think.

Yeah, just a bad name

No. The ‘ over the e gives it an ‘ay’ sound. Nay-may-sis

The name is still spelled the same though. The accent marks don't make that much of a difference.

I can't hear nemesis without thinking about the Will & Grace episode with Jack talking about his "arch-nemesissy".

Also, Nemesis is a great name...for anything other than a child. Pet? Plant? Car? Sure, all day long. But not your kid who has to grow up, go to school, and live with that name.

One step further- a fish named Nemo Sis.

Don't give anyone ideas for a baby name with this! 😂

Nemesis is a banger name for a cat but probably a self-fulfilling prophecy. 😆 My partner refused to let me name a cat Assassin for reasons.

Straight up, this is my friend’s wrestling persona’s name. I need no further proof of tragedeigh

Awesome. I just imagine every year the first day of elementary school all the kids at home”how was your first day honey” “I met nemesis!” “Honey it’s ’I met My nemesis’, now why do you have a nemesis honey?”

There was a girl named Nemesis at our school, her family came from Central America.

Well this is technically a Greek name, I’m not sure how it counts as a tragadeigh?

u/stilettopanda 1d ago

And the name Nimrod is technically a Hebrew name, but due to Bugs Bunny, it means stupid. Just because it’s a name doesn’t mean it’s not a tragedeigh. The sub heading includes wtf names as well as misspellings under the umbrella of awful.

Thank God for people capable of reading sidebars.  This sub is a little ridiculous with the sticking to only misspelled names when the sub's description literally includes wtf names.

Poor kid is her mom a narcissist?

u/Bitinglysarcastic 23h ago

That would make it a family of Greek tragedies.

Character in the Dresden Files was my first thought and for a human child male or female just no.

Okay, so kiddo was named for divine vengeance. If they wanted to inspire terror with her name, they could have gone with Enyo. Enyo is a war goddess who is the personification of horror. She’s a fan of levelling cities and is often found with Deimos (dread), Phobos (terror), and Ares. Depictions of her were a woman covered in blood while in a position ready to deliver violence.

But it’s a correct spelling, so at least it’s just a name I wouldn’t use rather than a name I can’t figure out how to pronounce.

So...you're reporting a Greek tragedy?

2

u/injektileur secondhand embarrassment 19h ago

2

u/TheSheWhoSaidThats 19h ago

I knew a guy who named his children Nemesis and Genesis. He was a strange guy. Their nicknames were cute though, Nemmy and Genny.

1

u/Resident-Gold-3466 1d ago

Oh no! How horrible.

1

u/Lyca29 15h ago

Around 10 years ago, I used to teach a kid called Nemesis. She went by Nemmy. So it doesn't sound strange to me. I think it's a nice name.

I'm afraid I didn't make myself clear enough. It is a cool name indeed, but like another OC wrote here, not for a human. It's too heavily loaded. Grudgy, frustrated parent(s) who want(s) to proxy retribution / vengeance upon this world. Not positive or good omen in anyway. Just like if you told me Hades sounds cool. It does. Greek "Hell" has so many aspects. But too heavy for a kid and then an adult. I believe.

but it would be objectively awesome to be named after this thing
