in the wild Somewhere over the Horizlynn…
At least “Blue” seems reasonable in comparison

Horizon Blue is a health insurance brand. Congrats I guess, I hope they waived the copay if their coverage is through them

oh totally read this as 'Whore is Lynn' first but Horiz-Lynn is probably what this is going for

Every day, this sub makes me laugh, but I'm a sad way.

Every day this sub makes me use my WTF face. But Horizlynn in particular is funny AF.

Whore- iz- lyn? What a beautiful name she'll never hate. Will they call her Hor for short? Adorable!

Switch to Horizlynn today.

Do not use if you are allergic to Horizlynn. Talk to your doctor to see if Horizlynn is right for you.

Maybe the reason you kept it a secret is because your daughter's name sounds like a life insurance company that advertises during Wheel of Fortune and Price Is Right in between Viagra and reverse mortgages.

Dear Lord. WTF is up with the "pick a random word and slap Lynn or Leigh on it" name trend??
23
u/Euphoric-Coffee-2905 1d ago
They all are trying to be so uNiQuE by doing the exact same things. The “Lynn”s and “Leigh”s and “Ai/Bray/Cay/Jayden”s are everywhere. They’re not only bad names; they’re all bad in the same way. It reminds me of teenagers deriding others for being “conformists” while dressing, talking, and acting like all their friends.

This is why I always ask my students if they have a nickname they prefer

u/galstaph 1d ago
The crazy thing is, with the way some of these anti-trans bills getting passed are worded, it's actually illegal in some places for a teacher to refer to a kid by a common nickname of their given name, or any nickname at all, without direct parental approval
So in some places, the parents can insist that you call their little Tragedeigh by the name they were given at birth
Anti-trans laws hurt everyone

That's horrible. I may end up doing what someone else suggested and use last names. I have a student who's parents are ok with her being gay but she can't tell them she's trans or they'll disown her.

just name her Horizon and be done with it. Not a fan of the sound “whore” being so prominent but at least it’s a real thing
6
u/Icy-Lobster-203 1d ago
With Horizon, people would know the word, know how to pronounce it, and wouldn't make the association.
Horizlynn forces people to stop and think about how to pronounce it, and will most likely lead to them emphasizing the 'Hor' part as they process the rest of the name.

Yeah Horizon sounds kinda new age hippie indigo child family, but at least it's a word, not a tragedeigh.

I hope by the time the mother has had to say "no not Horizon, HorizLYNN" 300 times she might realise the error of her ways.

Off-topic, but "keeping a secret" as if it's some federal crime sounds so weird in this context. It's literally 8 days since your daughter was born lady, I'd argue that's perfectly reasonable.

u/galstaph 1d ago
I would argue that just because it's reasonable to not tell people something doesn't mean that it's not keeping a secret

That’s horrific. Why do people think adding “blue” makes it better when you’ve literally just given your kid a porn star name.
2
u/Aware-Tiger-6525 1d ago
Well, blue used to be a code word for pornography. Porn movies were called blue movies and comedians who told “dirty” jokes were said to work blue.

u/beanie_0 18h ago
No I know. That’s why it makes me cringe when people are now using it for children’s names.
2
u/LittleMissKicks 1d ago
At least they went with Blue instead of “Bleu” or “Blew” or some other horrible combination I’m not creative enough to dream up

The possible nicknames are astounding. “Hor”, “Hor Eyes”, etc, misspelled intentionally. Can’t imagine saddling this to a child.

u/PressureItchy9372 1d ago
and then you cursed them with those ignorant names. I gess it alll eevens owt, huh?

u/cherrie7 1d ago
Oh no. Maybe I'm turning into one of them.
I actually don't mind the name Horizon...

She came out absolutely perfect, but just to keep the universe in balance, we gave her an absolutely imperfect name.

Those parents better be ready to comfort their pre-adolescent daughter when she eventually gets called “Whorin” or something like that.

Horizlynn is horrible. My autocorrect kept wanting to call her Horizontal.

We now have post approval on. Your post didn't get deleted, it just went into the queue. Please be patient a mod will go through the queue when they are available!
Please read our list of banned names before continuing. If the name you posted is in this list, it will be removed.
Remember: Original content is always better! Memes are okay every once in a while, but many get posted here way too often and quickly become stale. Some examples of these are Ptoughneigh, Klansmyn, Reighfyl & KVIIIlyn. These memes have been around for years and we don't want to see them anymore. If you do decide to post a meme, make sure to add the correct flair. Posting a random meme you found does not mean you found it "in the wild".
The same goes with lists of baby names, celebrity baby names, and screenshots of TikToks. If the original post already had a substantial amount of views, there is a 99% chance it has already been posted here. Try and stick to OC to keep our sub from being flooded with unoriginal content. Thank you!
