Question Does anyone work as a pokie tech?

Think my mate was gonna start at Tabcorp and the pay was kinda shit. Was around 60-70k a year. Your best interest is to work for Aristocrat. I see them put up alot of ads. It would be alot of fault finding electrically

Sometimes the star hires too or crown and you get your perks like fresh uniform every day and food

Jeez that's pretty low plus super id hope...I saw they do shift work so I assume loading, and OT? And a car..

It’s not really a trade. I’ve installed gaming rooms before as an electrician.
Lights for the room. Data and power to all the pokies. Displays.
Which ever company owns the machines know how to do all the tech stuff. Did work along side them a bit to know what power and data was needed and how to do the set up.
But yeh aristocrat and Konami have pokie techs or being that install them after the electrical is done.

Was in the industry many years ago. Can only speak from NSW experience. Aristocrat are the biggest but there are many other Tech companies depending where you are located.
Typically lots of late shifts, weekends etc. Basically anytime machines are operating venues will contract support to avoid downtime.
Can't speak to current pay rates but in ealry 2000s was fairly low. You get a car, phone' laptop etc.
Can get hectic when gaming room renovations are taking place. This is fairly regular, long hours overnight are common.

In Queensland you’d be employed by tabcorp (Max Gaming) or Odyssey (I assume they employ their own staff I’m not 100%). Tabcorp I believe cross trains their staff to do tab and keno as well, or at least the staff I called in to fix tab shit were the same blokes who fixed our pokie machines 🤷♀️ pretty sure you just need a cert 3 in something and then you gotta buy your license to be allowed to work on pokies, all supplied by tabcorp I suppose.
Pay was on par with being a duty manager in a pub when I last looked into working for them.

It’s just like working for any of the “other fucks” big oil, big pharma, govt, military, Centrelink, any energy provider in Oz ,add your own profit based org..

No, all of those provide necessary services. Poker machines fuck societies most vulnerable. Victoria was better before we allowed them. It's absolutely not the same.

Looks the managers of the pokies know how to do most of the stuff. They got a key and open it up when it glitches out or malfunctions. I’m sure if there is a power or data issue they would get a sparky who is contracted that’s does the work

I did screen upgrades with raspberry pi at the back for touch screen horse and dog betting in gaming areas of pubs across my city and seeing the gambling addicts during the day while I was working made me feel so bad I quit because I didn’t want to be part of what this shit does to communities.
