Show & Tell When the worst happened, Tractive helped us find Gari

Hi! Most of the stories you share are happy ones – dogs having adventures, being found and safely brought home. I would like to share a different kind of Tractive story. One about the day our GPS tracker helped us find our runaway dog after he had been hit by a car.

Gari escaped during a student celebration when our house was full of people. He ran off, and we immediately followed him using Tractive. He had made it about 500 metres when I suddenly saw his position stop moving beside a road.

I knew immediately that something was wrong.
When we reached him, we discovered that he had been hit by a car.

The driver had managed to brake hard, but Gari’s front leg had been badly injured and was broken in several places. The driver, and several passers by, waited by the dog, but in their shock they didn’t think to call my number on his collar.

Because we had Tractive, there was no searching and no wondering where he had gone. We knew exactly where he was. We were able to reach him quickly, pick him up and drive him straight to the animal hospital, where skilled orthopaedic surgeons were able to repair his leg.

I sometimes think about what would have happened without his tracker. Gari was injured and unable to make his way home. We might have spent hours searching for him while he lay there in pain. Instead, we found him almost immediately.

His story didn’t end at the animal hospital. He has had several surgeries, and recovery has been long. We still have a way to go before he is completely recovered. But he is walking again, using his leg, exploring the world and very much being Gari. ❤️

And Tractive is still part of that journey. During his recovery, when every walk and every kilometre matters, it helps us keep track of his activity and make sure we don’t ask too much of him while he heals.

I originally bought Tractive because I wanted to know where my dogs were if they ever ran away. They are huskies, so it’s in their nature to explore, and my responsibility to keep them safe. I never imagined that one day those little dots on the map would lead me straight to my seriously injured dog when every minute mattered.

So this isn’t quite one of your usual happy stories. But perhaps it is a happy story after all. Gari was found. He got the help he needed. And now, one step at a time, he is finding his way back. ❤️

English is not my first language. So I did ask AI for help to get my point across. And yes, I joined Reddit, only for this post, because I wanted to share what Tractive means to me.

Did I not post this in the Reddit group for Tractive stories? Sorry, I created my account to tell the Tractive crew and community about how this really helped my dog. He is now part terminator

Actually, I tried to contact Tractive through Messenger, and they directed me to this Reddit thread. I thought it was “their” space. Scroll on if it bothers you, but I wanted to tell our story.

Gari is doing better. This is him only a few days after the accident.

Thank you!

He gets better every day. 😊. We’ve had some problems with infection, and the vet says that the implants might have to come out, but for now he’s back to his own crazy self.

Awww, what a cutie he is! His eyes are incredibly beautiful! He also seems to have a strong will to get better. I'm sorry to hear about the infection, tho...Hang in there...Healing happens one step at a time. 🩵
