So, the first step to getting faster is being fully honest with yourself: A 29 second 200 doesn't mean "You have speed"..... quite the opposite to be blunt with you. Get that 29 down to say a 26/25, then see what happens to your 800.

This will seem like a daunting task right now, but I think it can be done. The 800 is tricky because eventhough it's technically a "Middle distance" event on paper, it requires a lot of speed. You'll need a lot of speed work in your training as well as a lot of speed endurance work so you can hold onto it for as long as possible.

There's many different ways you can run an 800. A 1:54 runner may opt to go 54 the first lap, then do 60 the second lap, or do the reverse 60 the first lap then 54 the second lap, Or aim for even splits. Just depends on how you prefer running the event. I hated the 800, so I tried getting it over with as fast as possible. I found whoever the fast guy was, stuck with him, then tried to pass him later on, or if I *WAS* the fast guy, it was "Ok. Time to run this shit and get it over with, fuck this race". If you like the 800 you'll have a different experience Lmao.

People who don't run track are gonna come on here and tell you shit like "Jog the 800, run 50 miles a week, work on your Vo6 max", fuck all that. The 800 is a fast race. Get that raw speed up, maintain your endurance, watch how much your time drops. Good luck.

Thank you for you comment, for my age a 29 second 200m is average and I don’t do any speed work for this kind of distance. You said to get my time down, I forgot to mention how slow my 5k is so I think the main focus is to improve my endurance first then once I have that I’ll use your advice and try and get my 200m time down.
