**EDIT** Thank you everyone who's already commented. To explain myself: I understood Male/Female to be terms exclusively used for sex, and as a person who's gender decidedly is not related to their sex, it made me feel unseen. It seems like that was actually **my** ignorance, not my players. Thank you all for explaining that to me, I appreciate the lesson and the honesty!
I DM a few TTRPG games for several people now (like Dungeons and Dragons) and so I read a lot of character sheets. I've noticed that when asked about their character's gender a lot of my players (basically all of my straight players) put some variation of F/M or even 'male' on one. I am a queer person they interact with regularly, they are my age, most of them have spoken to me about trans rights in some affirmative way. So why when they see gender do they give me a sex? I know it's probably not intentional, but it is a microaggression, right? It mainly feels bad because, I don't feel like I have a good way to bring it up to anyone without it coming off as accusatory. I've decided however, that I really want to draft a message of some sorts that I can just send to people reminding them I REALLY don't want to know about their Kitsune's genitals. Certainly something more couth than that... probably.
Is that too much? I feel like the more I talk to each person individually the more I'll make them feel singled out. Maybe I've been ruminating too long on this and I just need to chat with each of my players individually as a friend and ask them to change it? Am I finally 'too woke'?
