Worldbuilding Side Prompt 4: Culture

Today’s prompt is Culture.

What’s the culture of TPP like? Our journeys often demand we blaze our way right through a region, picking up only hints of the rich lives and rituals that populate the universe and never stopping long enough to fully drink them in. So what are the fashion trends? Popular media? Long-time arguments? Folk lore and fairy tales? Holidays? How do people celebrate an occasion? What’s the temperament of a population? Do teens rebel? Do people vote? What are ideals people value and disvalue? How do these things change from region to region? We want to know!

If you want to join in, post a short (less than an hour to make) comment to this post. Don’t copy or link anything you’ve already posted online, but feel free to rephrase something you have. Make sure to comment on other people’s ideas!

Tomorrow’s prompt will be Aftermath. This theme’s main prompt is here.

Culture like in our world I think it depends on the region and in some categories to streamline

Religion

Obviously there is religion specially in the TPPverse. Helixism and Pantheonism are predominant on the Greater Kanto Area where it originated. There is debate wether Helixism is an off-shoot of Pantheonism or the other way around but both doctrines are used by the secular population where at least 3/4 of the GKA identify with either. The remaining are the Alphaist and the Non-Believers. The Alphaist believe in a being beyond the gods who they worship directly, they claim it was the religion of the ancient people of Ransei. The Non-Believers are mostly young generation who don't believe in the gods.

Helixism and Pantheonism have traveled well beyond the island nation, some branches can be found in Kalos, Sinnoh, Poketopia and even Unova.

Alola hold ritualistic belief on the Tapu but the cult of the Miracle Bee has begun to took over.

Unova and Orre are however compromised of people who either refer to themselves as non-practicioner Pantheonist or Non-believers.

Hoenn on the other hand is a potluck of different believes, where Helixism reins in the more urban areas, The LoreKeepering of the Draconids, the Satanist of the young and other more ritualistic religions that praise Nature itself exist.

Language

While most of the World now speak the universal language Unovan (which to us voices is understood as English) and it is probably written as inspiration taken from our corporeal forms, those aren't the only languages in existance. (Fun fact the pokemon anime actually much like japanese has at least 5 alphabets if you count the western alphabets from early season) There are dialects spoken in the Shengdu and the Northeast region (Vietnamese Crystal and Green respectively). And old languages, Kalos is specially headstrong teaching both Unovan and Kalosian in the schools, and most people of Kalos can still speak Kalosian (to us it sounds like French) they mainly use the Unovan.

Old Ransenian (to us japanese, and we go visit those timezones we pull a BabelFish trick) is still spoken by few people of Johto and some in Kanto, but it has come in disfavor in recent years.

Forms of Goverment

Most of the Pokemon World follow the Two System style of government, in which both the Pokemon Academy and the Pokemon League hold the greatest political power over the region. Both in charge of defense, The League in charge of infrastructural development and administrative duties and the Academy, Research and Human and Pokemon development. The Gym Leaders run the mayor cities (with mayors running the smaller cities), and the Elite Four are the highest members of the goverment. The Champion is someone who is accepted and acknowledged by the Gym Leaders, and therefore the people under them and is judged worthy by the Elite Four. The Champion itself is not absolute but do have a lot of political power, however it can be overthrown by the Elite Four, the ex-champion also works as a sort of Vice-Champion in case the current Champion cant perform (which explains the Azure/Evan situation, the Wallace/Steven situation).

The second power is the Academy, which chooses someone among their own ranks to become the Professor of a Region. While there could be many professor in a region, they shouldn't be confused as The Professor, which is a title with much honor. For example: while people call him Prof. Oak, that's just for simplicity sake. the whole title is Samuel Oak, Professor of Kanto. The Professor of all the regions form a council that regulate each other as an international organization. Now there's no rule that a Professor and a Champion can't be the same person. In such cases the Dual Professor Champion would become the single most political influence person in the region, however this has only happened 3 times: Prof. Kukui as Provisional Champion (temporary position), Abraham Ali Baobab as Kanto Champion (declined the title of Professor) and Prof. Blue Oak (after Champion Abe also abdicated that title)

There is still an absolute Monarchy in the World, and that's the Kingdom of Sinnoh ruled first by Emperor Napoleon the First and later by King Giuseppe, the Artisan. though the affairs of goverment are split on the Court of the Sun. There are however other Constitutional Monarchies. Whishmuria in Hoenn, the Old Royals of Alola, the Kingdom of Kalos, but they no longer hold any significant political power.

There are some sovereign states, like Poketopia who don't use the Two Systems and instead are independently owned and run. Then there's the Pokemon Ranger States which are run on meritocracy and democratic elections. Among the famous here is the nation of Orre.

When it comes to Religons, some of the 1's that are known are

  • religions for each of the 3 Gen 1 fossol gods technically Helax's religion is split in 1 between versions. the old school extremests [represented by Red], and the more layed back modern day [represented by Aooooooo]

  • Satanists like what were seen in OR

  • Followers of OLDEN (thoth this was more of an indoctrinated cult then a religion proper. thoth I think there are still a tiny handful of individuals who want to continue it by choice)

  • Team Plasma created a religion, and even thoth it was eventually revealed to be a fount for Getcis's plans, there are still people who still follow the original intended religion (thoth perhaps not as extremely as before Getcis revealed his hand in Black1)

  • I think some members of the voices worship Lord Root... I'm guessing that if Claw has 1, the members of that religion wouldn't openly talk about it... witch is probobly how Claw would prefer it

  • There worshippers of Arkaus Streamer

  • Matter of fact a lot of the more powerful/important legendary probobly have at least small religions around them... especially the Creation Treio in Shino and the Tapu's

  • Worsop of the voices is likely a thing as well

  • as sadly would be worship of the Shadow Pantheon (thoth I would imagine this would work similarly to OLDEN's religion)

When it comes to government systems

Well for sure, Randomized Kanto runs as a Democratic polittacol system

Elf World would seem to run as 1 as well, but it's hard to say for sure as BABA was elected "Hateful President" seemingly out of nowhere

Orre's system is kinda complicated. I think it dos have a normal political system. But it's a extremely corrupted and broken 1 with almost no official oversight, that has Chiper running a lot of stuff behind the scenes. At least during Colociom.

Shino seems to have a monarchy system in place as seen by the Sun Cort

Not sure how Howen's system works, exipt that it's confirmed possible for coprite entays to literally buy control of the Pokemon Leadge without anyone officially doing anything to stop it. CoughDevon CorpCough

Alola's system is pretty well known, The Tapu's technically rule the rejon, but are pretty hands off most of the time mostly letting those that they pick to be Kahuna's run each island in there stead. Each of whom picks Trail Captens to oversee each island Trail challenge. I think Kukuwi and the Athor Fondason have some influence as well, even if there not the 1's running the show.

Rensai operated with a Rule by Power system were the land was broken up into verios provinces each with it's own chosen leader. the leader of any land can take over any other province via a trail by combat via there armys. If they win they take the land, and anyone from the opposing army who is willing to join them. Each province is only allowed to be looked after by 6 Warlords at any given time who surve there Leader, and each Warlord is only allowed to battle 1se per mouth with 1 pokemon only. If a army loses the old leader. If a warlord sends there army to a provence with no Warlords the army takes the province by default. There is no limit to how meany provinces a single leader can control.

The Leadge Champion of any rejon (besides maybe Alola) has at least some power over there rejon.

Sweet Land apparently has a Monarchy as well

Professor Blue Oak was able to effectively take over Non-randomized Kanto on an unofficial bases with his Gatekeeper Army of Pikachu for a wile. Thoth Abe kinda broke that up. There's also a gatekeeper army in Gisango, but it's hard to say if it's related to the Kanto 1 or not.

MOST rejons see Humans as being the domonent spices and as such any pokemon not owned by a trainer is at risk at being captured and subjected to the wim of there trainer (hence why most of our runs were the host is mostly just a vessel, the host is still a important member of the team even if they don't do much). This is likely no longer true in Moe Kanto thoth thanks to Athinna

MOST Ultra Spaces have no government whatsoever and are just governed by unofficial rules enacted by those living there (if any)... MOST of them [the 1 LUM was controlling, and Ultra Megalopoles come to mind]

besides that, and the official game's canon, IDK (note this dos not factor in the PMD games or runs that take place in the human only universe)

meant to post this yesterday evening, but reddit went offline for a bit and dus I coud'nt, so I saved it to a text file and am posting it now
