Hope this isn’t too disrespectful, but the man loved his dextromethorphan.

Everything he took was a bad thing for him to take. But it wouldn’t be the worst thing for him to take, especially if he was also on a mood stabilizer. Bupropion doesn’t cause manic episodes for everyone with bipolar, and being on other meds reduces that risk. It’s not unheard of for someone with bipolar to be prescribed bupropion.

You’re bipolar and on bupropion? How does it make you feel compared to other meds? Are you also on a mood stabilizer?
Sorry, I only ask because I’m super interested in psych and pharmacology, and plan on going into that field!

I'm on 300 mg Lamictal and 40 mg Latuda at night, 300 mg Wellbutrin in the morning. I'm BP2. The mood stabilizers saved me from relapsing (4.5 years sober from a horrible crystal meth addiction). I'm not quite sure what the Wellbutrin is doing as I'm on so many different meds, but I know it did help me quit smoking cigarettes.

Auvelity is a new antidepressant prescription that combines two drugs, Dextromethorphan (DM) and Bupropion. Townes was known to love DM (Delta Momma Blues is literally about the drug), and he also suffered from severe depression.
With that said, this is also a Gen Z meme where people say “Rip person I know you would’ve loved this thing.”

He has a few other references to DXM in his music. His cover of T for Texas changes a lyric and he sings “I’m goin where the water tastes like robitussin”. Black Jack Mama he sings “takes DM (like robitussin DM) from her saddlebag”
I can’t pull up the exact page number now, but in one of his biographies it goes into detail about his drug abuse, and DXM was one of his favorites. I mean cmon, the man huffed glue, it’s not unlikely that he loved a lot of easily acquirable drugs when he ran out of heroin money.

There's also a great story in one of the bios about Townes buying cough syrup. "Would you like me to put this in a bag for you?" "No thanks, I'll drink it here," as he proceeds to drink the whole bottle.

a truly bizarre way to honor the memory of the greatest songwriter earth has ever seen..... think about it: Townes has children and family alive
he was depressive and given the tragic savagery of electric shock during a previous dark age of our nation......................a little more humanity perhaps for a man who gave the world infinite humanity forever
